Default What is the best golf card of all time?

What is the best golf card of all time?

Tiger's UD card?
Rory McIlroy 2014 Exquisite?
1932 Bobby Jones U.S. Caramel?

Great question!

The responses you get may depend the definition of "best."

- Monetarily most valuable based on (historical or potential) secondary market sales price?
- Rarest or most difficult to obtain?
- Iconic for the hobby or sport?
- Or just simply your personal favorite?

Interested to see what the forum members think!

Happy New Year, everyone!

I’ll give two completely diverse opinions….

My number one card of “significance” would be the 1971 Barratt & Co. Jack Nicklaus rookie (you could make a good case for the 1926 Lambert Bobby Jones as well)

For coolness and maybe $, it’s gotta be the 2014 exquisite triple auto of Tiger, Nicklaus and Palmer

Tiger Woods Sp Rookie Auto /900 (Green) & /100 (Gold).

That card is as Iconic as the 52 Mantle, 86 Fleer and the Brady Champ Ticket.

I agree! Now I just have to find a way to afford one before the prices get too high!

I tend to agree that Tiger's 2001 SP #45 should stand alone at the pinnacle of golf card collecting.

For vintage collectors, I think the Honus Wagner of the hobby is the 1926 Spalding's Bobby Jones. It qualifies as his rookie card, only 2 known, and issued as a prototype that did not make the final set. One sold a few years back in the REA auction.

This. No other golf card comes remotely close.

best card on paper would be the 2001 SP Authentic 1/1 quad auto of Payne Stewart/Gene Sarazen/Ben Hogan/Bobby Jones... until you actually see how ugly it is.

I’m a bit biased but I think in time (and probably sooner rather than later) the 2001 SP Authentic Preview red parallel cards of Tiger will be thought of as maybe his 2nd or 3rd best card. Being numbered to only 50 copies makes them exceedingly rare. I don’t think I (or anyone) would ever put it above the SP auto rc #/100, but I’m always looking to pick preview reds up if they come available. If someone has a preview #/50 and the auto #/900 and they say they’ll only sell me one of them, not both, at market price….I’m buying the preview #/50. They never come up and the auto is fairly plentiful in relative terms.

Just one persons opinion though

Says the guy who has 4 complete red sets!!

I also love the red preview set, one of my all time favorites!

Who has a #51 red for me?

The /900 is a beast for sure but my favorite looking card is the Gold Player's Ink /25

Ha ha, I really don’t have 4 complete Red sets. I only have one complete red set and a bunch of doubles of some players. I do have 4 of each of the Tigers but those are staying with me

No doubt this is an awesome card.

My one scenario though, would you rather have a PSA 10, 1952 Mantle or a PSA 10, 1960 Mantle, Maris, Berra Autograph?

I for one would want the '52 PSA 10 Mantle RC. Thats just me. Rookies are the key to the hobby in my opinion.

As mentioned, it is truly an amazing card with Tiger, Jack and Arnold and absolutely one of the best! And there are some amazing ones out there. I have a collection full of other autos from Tiger, and I think they are amazing! I have the 2005 Masters Gold Auto, 1/5 Goudey Royalty's, Exquisits and others, But I always come back to the Sp Rookie Autograph as it is the centerpiece of the collection. The same as if I would have a PSA 10, 1952 Mantle, it would be the centerpiece of a baseball collection.

Just my thoughts! Good part is, people can have different connections to different cards and that is what makes the hobby so great! There can be many different key cards to different people!
