I never sold my #57 PSA 8. It's one of my two favorite cards. I was truly excited when they were selling for over $20k. So be it if some people got burnt by buying at the wrong time. I do not feel sorry for anyone who bought a Jordan RC at the height. If they still own the copy they bought, they own a nice card.

It wasn’t an ‘86 Fleer, but during the heart of the viral bubble I turned down an offer of 40x my initial investment of a pc jordan.

You can call me Flipmasta. You can also call me moron.

Fun to see. Here are the total number of sales per year + average sale price.

2015: 16 ($16K)
2016: 35 ($25K)
2017: 28 ($19.6K)
2018: 21 ($23K)
2019: 20 ($28.5K)
2020: 27 ($100k)
2021: 44 ($409K)

So far in 2022 we have 2 sales @ $324K.

We sold through roughly 14% of the population last year. Still have a ways to go. It took us roughly 5 years to accumulate 30% of the pop and run the game.

Thanks for posting the numbers. I think there is still quite a bit of room for it to come down.

Of course there’s room, and those who accumulated will still make a killing unloading onto bag holders.

Tale as old as time.

If PSA ever starts grading the 1984 Star 101 rookie, you may have your wish.

Agree. The Star rookie being graded by PSA would make it interesting. Also, the 10’s going for stupid money IMO were not about moving the 10’s but raising the 9’s and 8’s which have a much higher pop. Take a year to buy up a ton of 8’s and 9’s, and then push a couple of 10’s for record prices with “help” and then you make $$.

I've gotta believe the Jordan Rookie stagnates for a long while.

Which isn't a bad thing. But there are so many.

I like Gary Vee, but his take that he knew 300 people that wanted a PSA 10 was total BS.

I would be happy to get the best copy I can get for $4k to $5k but there just seems to be better cards out there at that price.

I think the PSA 8’s get to around $5-6k at the bottom. Will probably grab a few and in the long run they will be a good deal - just not the absurd prices people pumped/shilled/juiced them to with the help of a few bad actors with money to burn and an AH to help them.

Still another 50-60% fall before we start talking about a floor.

No chance. The 1986 Fleer is Jordan's most iconic card just like the 1952 Topps Mantle. The Star is like the Mantle Bowman RC except it is not a RC. It will always be less desirable.

I think the premise of the original comment was that maybe the Fleer PSA 10 would come down to $100K.

If PSA starts grading the Star 101, I can actually see the Fleer coming down around $100K (maybe less, who knows).

It's not that the Star 101 would overtake the Fleer. I agree that Fleer would still be more desirable. But giving ppl more options lessens demand for specific items.

I'd recommend a rigorous attempt at doing some math on this if you want a plausible estimate. Assume that the population of Fleer 57 is about 30x of that of the Star 101. How much more money flowing into the Star than there is currently would have to occur, for the Fleer to dip nearly 2/3 in value?

The BGS 10 Jordan is going to cause the price of the PSA 10 to drop once they start hitting the market IMO. All of a sudden everyone will want one of those, and although there's only 6 of them, the PSA 10 won't seem as desirable

Was lucky enough to sell most of my modern basketball at the height of the boom in late 2020, early 2021, and have been using the funds to purchase cards I grew up wanting. Finally bit the bullet on a nice Jordan, at a price I was happy with. Just arrived today:

Great centering, although it's come to the point that I can barely look at the #57 given the "washed out" coloration (pretty much orange in the jersey in many cases, usually the ones with the off-register "Chicago" lettering) which was corrected in the '87 issues. OTOH my favorite-looking card, the '92 Stadium Club #210 MJ, doesn't seem to have the color right, either, but it seems to be an effect of the photo lighting than skimpy production values (which are just great with the Stadium Club, we don't need no stinkin' metallic refractor flash to find a card attractive, amiright?).

I almost feel like starting a thread on my issues with the color/production values in the '86 Fleer set, but would that be a bit much? Anyone else have that issue with this card/set? (Contrast with the red in the '84-86 Star MJ cards or the '87 Fleer ones.)

Would love to see that! I know that 86 Fleer had some glaring print production issues that resulted in ink runs, fisheyes, and tone inconsistencies, but the set photography felt pretty ambitious for the time (at least compared to baseball).

Stadium Club definitely set itself apart in the photography realm. If I had to guess, I'd say early sets tweaked the saturation to make players in the foreground stand out more, and did this less as technology gave rise to crisper images without as much color adjustment. It remains one of my favorite sets in baseball. HD borderless photography with a high gloss finish really lends it a premium feel.

Interesting connection between the previous PWCC Jordan sale and the Rattle video posted above. Both the BGS Kobe that PSA reviewed as trimmed and that PWCC Jordan PSA 10 sale are linked to the same, known trimmer.
