I agree 100% double standards and all. How about a shirt with black power? Imagine a shirt with white power?

White people get called cracker, honky, white boy etc it's acceptable.

Now fill in your favorite word for a black person and all hell breaks loose.

I'm sure many of the usual suspects will do an olympic style contortionist act to tell you how you're wrong but you're right. Here's the thing racism exists, totally it does, on both sides *shocker* just one side gets offended and it's portrayed by the media, the other side typically laughs it off. I'd probably get in trouble laughing if I were called a cracker or a honky but whatever.

I once had a black teacher tell me "you are the whitest person I've ever met" I said "thank you!" Had I said the reverse...well you know. But whatever white knights gonna white knight.

I have a pair of Oakleys that I’ve had forever; the old school M Frames. I still wear them on the rare occasion I wear sunglasses. I once had a black coworker tell me “you white folks sure love yalls Oakleys”. We had a nice laugh.

I saw that! Looks like he solved the NFL's problem.

Now anyone can identify as whatever they like.

And the establishment media will have to accept that! Can't hurt anyone's feelings!

i don't think it's that he identifies as multi-racial, according the to internets his father is African-American. Now I have no photos to prove this, and wikipedia has no information....

so it's true

Flores may have sued his way out of a job with the Texans. If the rumors are true, they are going with Lovie (Smith not Howell).

My conspiracy theory is they were put under tremendous pressure to hire a black HC, but Flores originally was the only candidate. Since there would be no way they’d hire the guy who is actually, you know, suing them, they scrambled to find a last minute replacement.

Why would they be under pressure to hire a black guy when other teams weren’t?

I think other teams were under some pressure to hire a black HC, but clearly the Flores lawsuit upped the stakes by quite a bit. Houston was the last team standing yet to really decide on a HC (I know Min and NO haven't officially hired anyone, but reports suggest those decisions were already made and are just in the process of being finalized).

I can't say I have been following the Texans' HC search closely, so I certainly might be wrong here, but I sure cannot find any reports linking Smith to the job at all - until late Sunday when all of a sudden, and completely out of nowhere, he is named as the leading candidate.

Yeah its pretty wacky how members of the race that enslaved the members of the other race until 150 years ago, and then forced the members of that other race into second-class citizen status based ON THEIR RACE until 50 years ago, are able to shrug off racial retorts without much offense. Funny how that works out

It’s funny about the whole slavery thing how America has become the poster child for slavery whereas there are still countries that have slavery (Also, Great Britain brought slavery here when the colonies were English, yet they get a pass when it comes to this topic). Slavery is for sure a horrible stain on our nation yet when you listen to many prominent black leaders they will tell you this is by far the greatest nation on earth and affords more people of color more opportunity than any other nation. There is no way we will ever get past the horrors of the past by drudging up the same. The fact that Patrick Mahomes is the highest paid player in the NFL shows how far we have come in the NFL. Forcing a anyone to hire a black coach is just as damaging to growth in our culture as it is to discriminate. In fact, forcing someone to hire only a particular color IS discriminating. I don’t hear any conversation about “the NFL doesn’t have enough Hispanic coaches, Asian coaches”.

Also funny how my family hadn't left Europe yet until well past slavery. Yet we're all umbrellaed under white privilege etc etc. Funny indeed.

Sorry not sorry, but my ancestors did not enslave anyone. And I wasn't even alive 50 years ago. So tell me again why it's ok to call me racial slurs?

I wouldn’t take anything he says too seriously as he’s still parroting the “hands up don’t shoot” narrative surrounding Michael Brown that was proven to be false.

The one who reached for the officers gun? Gotcha enough said. Won't waste time responding anymore, thanks.

We are still in a multi-century transitionary period from slavery. I believe everyone wants all races to 100% trust each other, but we're not there yet, obviously, so I get why in certain situations we have to force the hand a bit to move things along until hopefully all this can come naturally. I'm optimistic that it's slowly moving in the right direction.

Stupid comment. Members of the race? Really?

I see you like Koufax. Would you lump him into that because he’s white? Or how about Matsui? Would you call him a member of the race that bombed Pearl Harbor? I hope not, because obviously neither were responsible for the sins of the past.

No one here ever even bothers to attempt to understand a comment from a point of view they disagree with. I was responding to the comment that said "*shocker* just one side gets offended and it's portrayed by the media, the other side typically laughs it off" to provide an explanation for why black people may on balance find racially charged language more offensive than white people. I was in no way commenting on "white privilege" or saying that every white person is complicit in slavery, or that racial slurs against white people are somehow ok. jesus christ

Wow you're dishonest lol. I just cited Michael Brown's case as one of several examples of police shootings where observers blame(d) the deceased for their death. I never said that I believed the "hands up don't shoot" account was accurate. And you conveniently ignored the other examples I mentioned, but that's a debate for another day.
