I'll ask again: How many autographs does an average player contractually sign per year? All items, not just cards. But the cards-only number would be good to know, too. Then we can estimate the total number of hours of signing done per player per year. No carpal tunnel injuries, I see further down the thread...right. I wonder why. Can't get carpal tunnel if you're not the one doing the signing. Maybe Mookie stopped because he didn't want to participate in what he considered an unethical system of ghost-signing? Mookie is the wave of the future. Also, why do you think he stopped, even if we're assuming it wasn't because most autos are forged now and assuming that players really are signing alone out of sight for hours. Do you not think other players would feel the same way he does? Do you not think maybe they hate it? Do you, as a fan, enjoy forcing players to do stuff they hate? Quote:
If you don't have the luxury to meet them in person for an autograph, uhhh...too bad? Have you considered, you know, like...NOT CARING about getting their signatures if you're not actually there? When you look at an auto card nowadays, do you not instantly imagine the player sitting alone and resenting you, the fan, for making him do that? Autographs use to serve that purpose, a memento that would recall the moment you met the player. Now they recall the moment you annoyed and exploited a player. Is that the secret underlying appeal? A token that represents the brief time you controlled the player, imposed your will on a famous athlete, subjected a millionaire to belittling tedious work? I can understand why my comments might trigger some resentment. If this meme gets going, and the worst case scenario is taken seriously, then it might cost a lot of collectors many thousands of dollars. And if fans ever decided en masse to stop demanding autos, and if players all stopped, then dealers would lose many thousands or even millions, since autos now drive the market, fuel box rips, etc. Oh well. Tough. Last edited by wigglestrue; 02-16-2022 at 01:00 AM. Reason: clarity |

What in the living hell did I just read? I guess I should be writing an apology note to Tom Brady for my autographed cards that he probably didn’t sign…

Oh no, I posted "a lot of words" again, lmao. I guess since the demand for hours of mass robotic autographs from players is based in thoughtlessness, I shouldn't be surprised that some auto-hungry collectors don't like reading lots of words or thinking lots of thoughts.
Here, I'll get back "on topic", okay? Low-end Brady rookies are holding strong. ![]() |

For the people that have been collecting Brady for a long time and complain about posts here…just curious, if you’re not selling, why do you check here everyday?
Every few weeks I could see keeping up with what’s going on, but daily…? |

"Honey, I know this is my day off, but I have a duty to reward my biggest fans, all those collectors and dealers who want me to write my name 1000 times in a row so that their cards are more valuable. I'll have to give you a raincheck on the nookie, these people are really important to me." THAT, is sarcasm. Yes, I would bet 1000 dollars that Brady hates your guts, sorry. Alternatively... "Huh? No, sweetie, I'm not tied up, let's go have fun. Those cards on the table are being couriered to the forger at noon, I haven't signed one of those damn things in 10 years. Nah, don't worry, they'll never suspect it, they're so blinded by greed that they can't even form a rational thought anymore, if they ever did." Oops, too many words again. My fault, here ya go: Brady good, autos good, thinking bad. |

You could go to Non-sports where there is an argument about why Spider-Man is better than Tom Brady...yes, you read that right...hahaha

Still haven't seen an estimate of how many items per year per athlete get signed. Here's what Fanatics had Brady sign one day, just in terms of helmets. Looks to be about 2000 helmets in the photo. Probably more elsewhere. Not sure how many other items there were, like footballs and jerseys. Probably thousands more of each. The good news for auto fetishists: There's video of Brady signing some of them. He doesn't look particularly happy or unhappy in the press releases, but Brady is a seasoned pro at posing for cameras, so who knows.
![]() ![]() If you were Brady, how much would you need to be paid to make all that worth it? Fanatics was selling each of those items for 3000 or so each. How much of that 3000 does Brady get per item? If it's at least 1000, let's say, then hey, maybe I've been wrong. Something like 5 million dollars for subjecting himself to that crap for a day would, indeed, be enticing. Kind of like those what-if/would-you masochistic hypotheticals people play. "Would you eat a bowl of dog turds for a million dollars? Okay, but what about five million dollars?" The average person is going to eat that bowl, probably for way less than a million, too. But then, Brady is not average. He's already earned upwards of 300 million dollars. His wife is worth even more. So why do that? For people that rich, time is more valuable than money. Perhaps he decided that a one-day sum that large was worth sacrificing a precious day with his family. I mean, that's necessarily what he decided. So, basically, autograph fiends collectively bribed Brady to skip a day of his life in order to spend several hours doing assembly line work. Like I asked before, is that part of the auto thrill now? Reversing the roles for a day and reducing Brady to the position of a common worker? If so, you should see how far it can go. Maybe if you pool together and pay him 10 or 20 million dollars, he'll agree to not see his kids for a whole weekend and to work the line at a shoe factory. I wonder how much power by proxy you could wield over him if you managed to offer him 100 million. Now we're talking really degrading scenarios. You could really punish him. Is that the point? Can we end the debate and agree that on card rookie autos are the best?
Signed obviously before he won his first ring, before it all. Compared to whatever he signs now when it’s all been done already Recently a press pass BGS Auto 10/8.5 went for just over $6,700. A 10/9 I’m guessing would be around $10,000? Probably not that high, but should be |
