I want to be a fan since every pack I rip somehow magically has a Tatis in it (it's eerie), but he does not make good choices (e.g., bike accident, shoulder surgery, this). I just can't justify spending on his cards.

Question to the board...Are you now planning to have a fire sale and take what you can get or are you going to double down and buy more as prices go down?

From what I've heard, he was in a moped accident 3 months ago, was wearing a brace for his wrist but never got it fixed, and now it's come out it's fractured and he needs to get it fixed.

Lockout started Dec 2, motorcycle accident happened Dec 8. If that is when he broke it, would really suck if this didn't get taken care of earlier because of the lockout.
Wonder what his contract says about activities like riding a motorcycle.

Wrist injuries are horrible for players generally up to a year after surgery.

Hayes was the latest example of that. Looked set to join the best young hitters in the game. Messed up his wrist and had no power upon return.

Might as well get the shoulder done at the same time.

Based on the track record they will schedule that surgery for April 2023.

This dude will never play 162

Tragic. How does an organization miss this if it happened months ago? Look at Carlos Correa if you want to see tatis hobby future.

Team needs to just force him to get the dislocated shoulder fixed, surgery only way to prevent that from happening twice a season going forward

You're making millions every year and you need your wrist for every day activities/quality of life.

If he put off surgery because he didn't have union health coverage or anything like that related to the lockout...that's just poor judgement on his part.

I love Tatis and have a ton of money into his cards...but he makes a lot of poor decisions. Hopefully he learns from this and takes his career more seriously.

Genuine question - how much does a wrist surgery cost without health insurance?

Maybe it didn't bother him much and he thought it'd just heal up on its own but team DRs think otherwise

I’m glad the mlb lockout prevented me from loading up on his cards during the offseason.

Didn’t think his psa 10 topps 410 could get any cheaper than $85, but then again, nothing surprises me in this card market any more.

I suppose if you are speculating on the hope he will bounce back strong, there will be good opportunities in the next several months.

But if you paid high last year, may be best to cut ties and make it up in other players to recoupe the heavy losses.

Of course he was covered by insurance during the lockout. It is very likely his contract prohibits him for riding a motorcycle so he probably kept it from the team hoping it would heal.

Two months isn’t a killer, but he’s gotta play MVP level when he comes back, and is going to need to carry the Padres in the playoffs

I would assume both his agent and team would push for him to have both procedures now, and forgo any future IL time because of either. With both leagues now adopting the DH, I wonder if the Padres move him and really try to limit the risk of re-injuring either.

But DH would hurt his card prices.

And tatis is not interested in messing with his shoulder. Period .
