After a couple years to reflect I really like the vlad/Ronnie model for Spring phenoms who are up in April:
S2 Sp RC for the purists(w Mystery auto!)
Then a base card w parallels and SPs in Update.
It juices up a normally blah series 2 RC chase then guarantees lots of fun(non RD) stuff to chase in Update.
Hopefully JRod and Witt get this treatment. It virtually guarantees strong interest in the last 2 flagship releases of the year too.

I was quite disappointed no SP’s appeared in ‘20 or ‘21, other than the LouRob Opening Day. I think they’re a must. Like you said, it really spices up S2.

And as a total Vlad honk, I think his mystery auto is one of the greatest rookie autos ever. (If Eloy can reach superstar status soon, then his mystery auto would be right there, too.) So, Topps, feel free to bring those back.
