Well since I got the Premium Stock there's no reason to not go for the rainbow, right? This card is absolutely beautiful.

I would like some knowledge from you football people though. There's a hierarchy in baseball sets and 96 Mirror Golds, Red Crusades and Certified Team Gold Mirrors are in the top tier with PMGs and Finest Gold Embossed Refractors probably heading up the second tier (I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting). Any reason this isn't the case for these in football? Bruce PMG's seem to sell for a huge premium over these cards. Seems strange to see that big of a difference when the same sets are in different sports.

I think that part of the reason is that big prices are drive by the deep-pocket basketball collectors. You don't have this set in basketball, so you don't have the same trickle-down effect that you get with PMGs or Essential Credentials (where things hit big in basketball and then transfer over to baseball and football for the corresponding sets).

The 1996 mirrors (and particularly the premium stock mirror reds) are really something special, so it's nice that there is at least one set that flies under the radar and is the least bit affordable.

This take makes a lot of sense. 1996 Premium Stock Mirror Reds are my favorite, I have 13 of the 20 of my fav player from the set. Couldn't do that with PMGs. Maybe the set will blow up one day, but it probably won't for the reason you mentioned.

Same here, easily my favorite card -- being a football exclusive is a bonus!

Different one. Glad you mentioned that though because I checked the one you're referencing and noticed it had the same small mark on the back as this one (I thought it was ink or something, good to see it's a factory thing.)

I get that the basketball money drives a lot, but I figured some of that baseball money might trickle on down. A HOFer like Bruce would probably run $500-1000 in baseball. Guess I should quit bitching and be happy with the cheap prices.

Speaking of cheap prices - anyone out there want to help me complete the rainbow?

1998 Playoff Absolute SSD Hobby Gold /25

This copy is supremely diamond cut (trimmed?), so I tried to compensate by scanning the thing in at an stupid angle.

It's about understanding the rarity, collectibility and quality of the card. If the player is sought after, it can be a 98 Football PMG of a top CB in the 98 draft. That card could go for $9.50 or 3K depending on who has the card. I wouldn't let it go for less than 3K "I would throw in other cards tough Wolverine cards and a Pacific /50 of C. Woodson in Wolverine uniform card". The PMG card holder may place it on EBay and it may sneak under the radar if not listed properly and go for $9.50.

1998 Playoff Momentum Hobby Gold /25

1998 Playoff Momentum Headliners Gold /19

The Hobby Gold is in the running for my worst scan ever. Lot of competition for that honor. The foil has a really cool pattern, which you can't see AT ALL in the scan. I'll be a broken record and direct you to IG, where I'll be able to do a better job showing it off.

As for the Headliners Gold, be aware that there are (gold) versions without the serial-numbering. Don't pay full retail for those.

Historic card !

Odd how the stamp becomes lost in the white portion on the back of the card but is clear in the colored area. Never noticed till this pic.

Just got the final piece in today to complete the Gold Team insert set from 1995 Select Certified. Very nostalgic set for me… The Dan Marino was pulled back in 1995 on Christmas. I bought so many of these packs back then but only got one of these gold team inserts. Was looking back at some cards and remembered back in the day when this was worth $100 and was amongst the best cards in my collection. Obviously, the values have come way down, but I still love the look of the set. It was the toughest pole from that set at 1:41 packs (roughly 1 in every 2 to 3 boxes)

The OCD in me does not like the fact that the Barry Sanders is the only one graded, but I struggled to justify paying effectively the same price for the raw version.

New 1/1 came in the other day:

1999 Topps Gold Label Class 2 Black One To One #49 Steve McNair

Not to be confused with the 1/1 I already have:

1999 Topps Gold Label Class 2 Gold One To One #49 Steve McNair

I swear, these are different cards - the fronts of the 1/1s look the same as the base cards (e.g., the front of the gold 1/1 looks the same as the front of the basic gold), while the backs of the 1/1s of the same class look the same (e.g., the back of the gold class 2 1/1 looks the same as the back of the black class 2 1/1 and the red class 2 1/1). Fail, fail, fail!

Up to two of the nine McNair 1/1s from 1999 Gold Label. I know where a third is, but I haven't been able to get a response yet from the owner. Fail, fail, fail!

Sweet pickup. I believe I had 4 of the 9, 1999 gold label Mcnabb rc 1/1s before I sold my collection.
