For my Magic’s, the gold looks better than the green. The refractor just looks better for the mvps. The same is true for my Big O’s

The refractor effect seems to be the strongest for the mvp’s where my finalists insert don’t show the same effect

The consistency in the parallels is important for hobby collectors. My point right from the get go has been that while rarity plays a apart in the pricing of cards, it doesnt not pay the largest role in some cases. Prizm is an example of where even if silvers are not as rare as greens, still outsell them. They are just more desirable. That was the whole point. I also want to point out that silvers were in retail packs as well. Just greens were retail exclusive and golds were hobby exclusive back in 2012 and im pretty sure for all years.

Retail only parallels just dont fare well vs hobby ones.
This is all good and I agree with it all except one thing. "Base" silvers were not available in 2012 retail basketball. The silver autos may have been, but the "base" silvers were not. Only the green were available in retail.

True. No "base" silvers in 2012

I can confirm after opening two retail boxes just a few years ago that there are no base silvers inserted in regular 2012 Prizm Retail boxes. I did get a few greens but even then, there weren't very many in the boxes. I may have gotten a total of 4 at most from the two boxes and two were inserts.

Get over myself? Get over yourself. You turned this thread into something it was never supposed to go to. I could care less about desire and what is the more popular parallel lol. I have the silvers as well in a few players, silvers are definitely much easier to find than greens. Just because green released in retail doesn’t make them more easily accessible. I was just curious to know more about the rarity of the set in general. And in true from you derailed the topic. Congrats to you for having the silver, you aren’t alone, sir. The set as a whole is highly sought after because of its rarity most collectors don’t care whether it’s green, gold, or silver they’re after it regardless. In fact, I spoke to some very well known collectors on Instagram who 10 years later actually believe the greens are much more rare with a print run of 100 maximum, but believed to be around 74. There is a much higher print run amongst silvers. But as I said no one really cares at this point. It’s good to get your hands on any of these. Hell I just bought a Dirk Silver because it was there. I know how hard it is for you to attempt to have a good conversation but please, save the negativity for elsewhere.

You’re doing nothing but spitting common knowledge. At this point, as the OP already said it’s clear the greens are definitely the more rare of the two, not silvers. It’s simple math. But since you have the silver, you are being rude and pumping them. Not even what this thread was about. And as the OP also stated, at this point 10 years later most collectors really don’t care if they came from retail Vs hobby. Are you really this dense?

Damn noobs!!

Go ahead, make your mark

I find it absolutely comical that im being accused up puming while the OP makes threads and bumps age old ones to seemingly low key pump greens since he picked one up. I can count on you guys semi annually to make a new thread to attempt it. Good luck.

Also note that the other thread shows that silver inserts are limited to 60 copies. Do we even know the print run on green inserts to say they are more rare? I always thought base greens were less run but insert silvers were more rare.

Silver and gold will always be king.

Thank you for bringing that up. In the body of the thread about prizm numbers the OP states that retail prizm is unknown and rather "unlimited" since there is nothing to gauge the production against a serial numbered insert and the odds of pulling it per pack. Its just a guesstimate.

I know at least 3 people on these forums that finished a base prizm green set from 2012. I know know of 1 person on here with a full silver set finished. Im not using that to compound the rarity but its a pretty telling story.

I’m not a noob. I just wasn’t familiar with this insert. And I didn’t bump the other thread to pump anything, someone in this thread pointed it out. I read it, and responded to it. Perhaps I’m wrong about the print run on the silvers, but as I said I don’t care about one Vs the other, it was the set as a whole I was interested in learning more about. Silvers are so much more rare, yet so much more available. I guess that’s the case. Just enjoy the set! Not everything has to be about popularity. I collect what I like, you can collect what’s more popular. That’s fine by me, to each his own. Enjoy your weekend!

I posted the other thread.

Silvers are more desired and more expensive, even if theyre not as rare as greens.

The End

Interesting

LeBron James
Green PSA 10 pop 3 none higher none lower 3 total
Silver PSA 10 pop 5 10 lower pop 15 total

Derrick Rose
Green PSA 10 pop is 0, only one graded and it’s a 7. Entire pop = 1
Silver PSA 10 pop is 2 with 4 lower total pop is 6

Kobe Bryant green prizm PSA 10 pop 1 none lower total pop is 1
Silver prizm PSA 10 pop 4 9 lower total pop is 13

I could keep going but you get the picture.

No one ever said they weren’t. You see that’s where this thread got off on the wrong turn. But I do appreciate the feedback on the rarity since it was brought up.

Thats where you and I differ.

Theres nothing wrong about discussing the silver and green prizm inserts from that year.

Grading, grades and population mean nothing without context.

When the population of graded cards of a certain card is low, it means people simply do not submit them. The rest is all speculation. Take your kobe green psa 10 pop 1 with a total of 1 ever sent in for grading. Is that truly a rare graded card? or simply a card that isn't being submitted in higher volume. Vs the Silver kobe where the pop is 6 and 2 x psa 10s. It just means people are submitting more of a certain card vs the other.

Its like picking .... 1996 Flair wave of the future God Shamgod and saying the card is extremely rare because the pop report shows none have ever been graded. Lets just say 1 does graded and its a 9. Is that 9 a special card because none are graded higher? No. Its simply a card that doesnt get submitted because not as many collectors care for it. Or let me rephrase that...not as many collectors care for it. Just like the greens.

I knew you would say this. I can promise you that’s not the case 10 years later, with this particular set. People are grading these. Green, gold or silver. They’re getting graded. But whatever helps your narrative. Good night.

Ohh I know.

I completed a full silver set. Here is my leftover stash that I choose not to grade because I simply dont believe it's worth it as the grading prices. There are a lot of people out there just like. I promise you thats the case 10 yrs later!!!

In case you choose to go another direction..Ill save you the trouble of saying I dont grade because they won't gem.. My gem rate is pretty good.

Sigh.

I had Golds of Dirk, TD and KG and they were stunning.

You kinda take it for granted that cards like these will keep turning up year after year but they just don't.

To get this thread back on track.

Greens are more rare.

Silvers are more desirable and more $.

Both of these are facts and true

With that said I’ve collected greens (and some silver and gold. I’ve shared this picture before and it was not easy to build bc green inserts are just not very common

Beautiful set brother. And I agree with everything you just said 100% Glad someone finally said it. Appreciate you posting this picture, sets like these don’t get enough looks in an ultra modern society.
