Default Jimmy “Buckets” Butler thread

I can’t believe he hasn’t had one yet, so I thought I’d start one. Year after year, he’s gotten better and has simply tried to get the best potential out of his teammates.

It’s crazy how much work he’s put in, and is his ascension from a 29th overall pick.

He definitely deserves a thread. He takes over when he needs to. He did it in Philly too and I was so upset when he decided to leave (Philly chose Ben Simmons and Tobias lol).

Jimmy is a baller and could be making the finals 2 times in 3 years.

That is definitely changing. Some of his higher end stuff has taken off…some even more than doubled since the beginning of the year.
Met him on two occasions during private signings and he’s a super nice guy. He signed my Rookie year gamer and Chinese New Year shooting shirt

As a Bulls fan, followed Jimmy's background/upbringing pretty closely. It's touching story, even though he doesn't like to talk about it a lot.

But the dude straight out works hard and grinds. That's why he got annoyed at KAT, Wiggins, Simmons, etc... It's not necessarily that those guys don't work hard (maybe they don't). But they didn't work as hard as him. He's had to scrap and fight for everything in the NBA.

The funny/sad thing is, back when he was coming up with the Bulls, our missing piece was a SG (Rose, Noah, Deng, Boozer---our SG was Keith Bogans). We had that SG right under our noses the whole time. Then the Bulls traded him away when he got good because they didn't want to build around him. Got a decent haul, but whoops.

The hill I'll die on is that Derrick's injury robbed the franchise of a dynasty. Heat don't win in 2012 and Jimmy would have been the next cornerstone as Lu/Jo/Derrick started declining.

Yup. Derrick's injury was crushing. I still remember trying to finish up an appointment asap, rushing to turn the radio on in my car and 2 minutes later hearing Chuck describe Rose clutching his knee in pain. The next 24 hrs+ I was in a malaise.

That Bulls team pretty much had everything except 3 point shooting (Luol loved those 20 ft 2 pointers!). But Rose was so good at penetrating, he made the offense go. And our D was amazing under Thibs.

One of the most disrespected players in the league. On the verge of 2 finals appearances in the last 3 seasons. Plus he doesn't have much RC stuff. Wish I grabbed more years ago.

2 years ago I purchased a lot of 2014 Prizm Blues #/99 on Ebay, maybe 200+, loaded with current and veteran stars.

Veteran stars, current stars, minor stars all sold over the past year, with Jimmy finally selling this past week. The last two remaining non-common players were
Jimmy Butler and Kemba Walker!!

So big congrats to Jimmy! An epic playoff run rivaled by some of the greatest to play, and you're just barely more collectable than Kemba Walker.

Yeah I don't really get it. Jimmy is a great player, has a pretty fun personality, and he's the face of the Heat franchise/culture (outside of Riley).

He also has commercials and gets attention for his Big Face Coffee. I haven't really heard of anything relevant from Kemba in what seems like years.

Look at that identical form on 2 different shots. Textbook. Almost thought Panini had used the same pic but the jerseys are different.

Jimmy is a baller. Always has been. We can't deny that he can be too much for some personnel in the coaches box and ownership.

Brett Brown struggled with it.
The Wolves did too (anyone remember these guys were 4th in the West with Jimmy healthy, definitely a what if moment).

The Heat suit Jimmy perfectly.

It makes sense though.

He's basketball good but not hobby good. He's on his 4th team, constantly hurt and 32 years old (an aging star).

From an aggregate standpoint, he's only scored a little more than 12k points in 11 NBA seasons. For comparison sake, Luka has scored nearly 7k points in 4 seasons, Morant (also injury-prone) has nearly scored 4k points in 3 seasons and Jordan Poole has scored 2.5k points in 3 seasons as a 3rd-4th option (I just picked 3 random players).

Butler is a baller, just not a player I foresee a lot of people investing their money into. He's a perfect PC player though.

In real-world application, he's discount Kawhi Leonard minus the alien length.

In the hobby world, he's been suppressed, but I suspect that's mainly because he's bounced around multiple teams now without championship success, and his stints with Minn and Philly were rather forgettable.

That can all change if he wins soon. Comparing his stuff to someone like Lillard, you'll see what kind of potential upside exists for his stuff if they win it all this year.

Great series by Jimmy but looks like that last 3 point attempt was a desperation/exhaustion heave. Go C's.
