Default How long would you wait/hold a high end card for a buyer for? deposit etc?

This is not to bash. I truly am wondering. How long would you hold a HIGH END card for a buyer? How long would you wait for a deposit?
The sale was agreed to in Februrary for well over $300,000.

Keep in mind this person is an owner of a reputble grading company here in the USA. And keeps telling me he wants it for his PC. But tells me he is just so busy with shows etc to jump on plane to VT to pay and get the card yet.

I was also promised a deposit, about a month ago. Still cant seem to even get that. But tells me in July Or August he will come to complete the deal.

I know its a super high end deal which can't just happen via paypal. So I am trying to be reasonable here. Plus hes a reputable person in our hobby some of you prob know. Which makes this whole thing even tougher how to handle etc.

Truly looking for insight. Ive been doing my best to be patient and kind but not sure its working in my favor. And at the end of the day just wanna sell my card lol

February? He should already be called out. Shouldn’t a reputable person follow through when they say they will. You aren’t reputable if this is how you handle a deaL of this size.

Interesting. You basically called the person out or at least narrowed it down. But you handle the deal just like you would any other deal. Agreed upon time and deposit, neither was done. Time can be extended but no reason not to send a good faith deposit. So maybe someone changed their mind?

I doubt he will follow through with the deal if he has not already. Given the fact the market has dropped and with potential for a card of the magnitude of $300k to drop substantially I'm guessing the guy will not follow through with the deal.

He tells the reason is because he's busy...
For 300k I take a plane and leave it to a relative of his.
If that's not ok for him, then the reason is $

Yeah curious what the card is. If it’s a Mahomes that was being bought around super bowl time or something else. $300k is pretty big

If you have that kind of money, you have people to handle this kind of thing for you. This deal isn’t going to happen, otherwise it already would have.

Your card, and your time have been held hostage.

Due to this putz, you have not been able to freely solicit or sell the item in a timely manner or at your convenience.

No deposit.
4 months.

Are you sure you're not being scammed? Because this is beyond the pale.

Thanks for all the replies guys truly.

Its been mentally exhausting to feel to close, yet so far.

I did worry I may be getting scammed at first, as couldnt seem to get him to facetime me, after pushing back original date set for April. But we had a mutual friend who was going to same show recently, and they met, and my friend confirmed its him etc. And next day after said show, buyer told me will get flight booked and all that.

Even tho that was like 3-4 weeks ago. I'm told he's just super busy with upcoming shows and nationals. I guess his company is at nearly every show.

Its like no deal ive ever been invovled in thats for sure. But ive also never sold anything near this price, so trying to be kind and patient. But man its been tough

4 months is 3 months and 21 days too long.

Call him out and move on. He ain’t buying. He’s stringing you along and hoping he can get it cheaper.

Free stay at the B&B should be enough to get him on a plane to VT

People on here will call someone out over 8 bucks, and you are worried that 4 months isn't long enough for a $300k deal?

It's done, he's not paying, call him out. The whole "I'm so busy" excuse is asinine. Tell him you'll hop on a plane and meet him at his next show to make the deal, and he'll have a different excuse.

The only reputable grading company is Ruffleton Grading.

If the OP actually does this, I hope he charges the buyer for the plane ticket, hotel, food, etc.

Think of it as an inconvenience fee.

I don't disagree, but my guess is that there will be a reason that the 'buyer' can't make that work anyway.

Can't you agree to meet at nationals and get the deal done? Are you not in the states where you can get there easily?

Man, that would suck if the hobby fat cat already had a copy of the card and was only tying up OP’s card with pointless delay tactics while he sought buyers willing to pay more without competition.

Honestly not really missing anything
Ill try to add important details:

One thing I should mention to be fair, is I do suffer from a really bad anxiety issue. Which bears mention because its is the only reason I havent jumped on a plane and just gone to him. I dont drive, etc.

Which I've explained to each buyer whos contacted, including him. And also explaining I would need them to come to my home state and set up the wire transfer with my bank manager. Card is in safety deposit box at that bank etc.

Which was agreed to by buyer of course. He's even asked me multiple times to send best airport for him to fly into. As recently as like 3-4 weeks ago.

In that last message asking me about which airport, he assured me he will be here and send a deposit before his dates. and was looking at two dates either July 11th or August 3rd. Which I did agree to at the time. So I gotta give him until then to be fair.
I really appreciate everyones responses. I guess i just needed to vent for now while still waiting. Really hoping I update the thread soon with positive news!
