And yeah, it's likely the best deal SA got. DM also gets to be in the best position to win, as the other rumored contenders were the Knicks and Minny. Doubtful either of them offered 3 1sts. |

Love Murray, but this move doesn't really move the needle a lot to me. Hawks still aren't in a better position than Milwaukee/Miami/Boston short term, and longterm doesn't seem as bright as the Cavs, Pistons etc

This puts pressure on the Cavs to resign Sexton.
In order for us to make this deal, we'd essentially be surrendering 3 picks (at minimum), plus Sexton (provided we sign him).

3 pt shooting/spacing Future Flexability The best case scenario of the Cavs is that they can sign Sexton for a tradable deal. In that case we'll have Sexton, Lauri, and Lavert all on tradable contracts to go along with our picks. They play well, you can afford them. If something bigger comes along, you make the deal that better fits around Garland/Mobley/Allen.

3-4 years too late but good to see the Spurs start the full tank.
We'll probably see them with a mix of young talent and old vets was past it and win 15 games per year. Anything can happen with the picks, you never know, ATL lose Trae and those picks could turn out great. Even if they're in the 20 range the Spurs have drafted plenty of talent there. The main thing is they get out of being a middle of the road team.

Longterm it looks like they are building something that might be a contender. Yea. Longterm where are the Hawks going? I like Murray, you know what you get from Trae. After that? (and you just traded a pick swap in 26 and your 25/27 picks unprotected)

Cade looked solid but what else do they have? I do like their pick this year but we don’t know until he gets out there.

I'm just saying I prefer their longterm outlook to the Hawks, who I don't see ever winning anything of significance with the core currently in place. (and now a lack of ability to change that core).

Not even sure how to feel but good thing is I can see DJ play in person
Still think the return is lacking especially for “selling high” |

Hawnks got better today, I think we can all agree.
Now, how far will that push them up from the 8 seed they wound up in last year? That's the question.

If 2 of those picks wind up being in or near the lottery... probably a good deal. If those picks all end up in the 20+, that's a small return.

Agreed but the Hawks best players are just coming into their own, including DJ. And they are no doubt going to keep adding as contenders so it’s likely to be 20s. It probably was the best deal though

I don't disagree there. As long as they have Trae I'd expect them to be a playoff team.

man idk how i feel about the Spurs trade.
Dejounte and Keldon are my two favorite players on the team, and to see Dejounte go from a late 1st round pick into a triple-double machine and All-Star, was awesome. he worked really hard on his jumper and developed into a good all-around player. plus he's home grown, so to see this happen hurts. the Spurs are a team that really develops and keeps home grown guys as much as possible. and for future 1st round picks that could be really high or mid-low picks is risky, for a proven player. but i will say this: 1- i think the Spurs think Dejounte might have hit his ceiling this year, so perhaps there's no bigger market than for him right now? 2- Dejounte probably was going to cost them too much when his contract expires i believe in two years, so right now, they had leverage in a deal compared to other teams knowing SA was going to have to do something. 3- this gives room for some guys to really step up, like Keldon Johnson, who is on an upward track, and allows for a guy like Primo to possibly take over as the PG now. 4- guess i'm selling my Dejounte Murray's now....

Trae was 4th in usage this year, Murray 28th. The next highest Hawnk player was 88th, and he'll still be on the team. Statistically, something will have to give between Trae and Murray. On a related note... think of how competitive the Eastern Conference All Star backcourt race will be next year: -Trae -Murray -Lavine -Harden -Ball -Beal -Garland -Van Vleet -Simmons -Jaylen Brown -Cunningham -Kyrie And that's assuming they don't put Derozan at backcourt again.

![]() Made the ECF with this core already... Trae was 22, Kevin 22, Collins 23. Now add Dejounte, Hunter [was injured], and Okongwu [was a rookie]. Sure, there's a non-zero chance they never make it that far again, but there's a solid chance they do. At least a better chance than whatever Cade and Ivey's odds are, as neither have made it to the ECF so far, and neither is an all-star yet. Last edited by daeve; 06-29-2022 at 07:24 PM. |

Pistons and Hawks aren’t doing diddly for 5-7 years.

haha somehow I missed that the Magic didn't send the QO to Bamba either. I think he doesn't respect that org at all and they knew it. If a good developmental team gets a hold of him [Toronto, GS, etc] then watch out.
The things he's bad at : team defense, positioning for rebounds, screening - are all teachable. He already has what you can't teach: length, rim protector instincts, and ability to shoot 3's at a 38% clip as a 7-footer. |
