Default The ESPYs are a joke!!!

How in the world do you give a come back player of year award to a guy coming back from a torn ACL instead of a guy with stage 3 colon cancer??? Klay Thompson had a chance to become one of the most loved guys in sports and decline the award and give it to the more deserving Mancini, but he did not even acknowledge him in his speech. Just gross!

Wait, people actually care about an award show created by a tv network for the sole purpose of having an award show to air on the tv network? Who got the award for outstanding achievement in the field of excellence?

You should have just stopped with your title. These awards mean nothing. And in about a week, nobody will care or remember who won what award.

True, but with no live games on, there wasn't much to watch.

Yet, you slept on it and were still so bothered by it that you had to make a thread about it. Seems like the comment would have better suited for the Orioles thread

Like you said, the ESPYs are a joke.

Acuna tore his ACL. Why didn't he win?

If there is one thing I remember from the ESPY's... it's the Jimmy V speech. Almost word for word, even now today.

I just hope we can all agree that Caitlyn Jenner's speech after receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award was the greatest moment in ESPY's history, if not television history.

I'd be more upset that multiple women athletes (who were nominated for awards, btw) were not in the audience but, apparently, Ken Goldin was.

I saw 7 minutes of the show...When I watched Megan Rapinoe or whatever win best sports moment or whatever for scoring on a corner kick, I changed the channel immediately. I did that when I was 12, they just wanted to talk about freeing Britney grinder (see what I did there).

I know, I was being generous. I barely watch ESPN at all any more, unless one of my teams is playing, so I was assuming that they would spend at least a week shoving in people's faces.

Sorry, my first thoughts after watching were not to sign on the computer and post on here. It was talked about on sportstalk radio on my drive in to work if you must know what made me post. I can't believe the way I have triggered some of these responses by giving an opinion about a sports award show. Please forgive me for wasting your time. I hope none of you or any of your friends or family have to go through cancer.

No one disagrees with the sentiment that prompted the thread. Ignore all the other stuff

Espys gives award to Olympic athlete that chose to represent china over USA

I get why she did ($ and china was host country) but something about giving her award just doesn't seem right - but it does seem very 2022 (anti USA)

Funny that even though Russia says they want USA folks to stop saying Britney Griner was set up, wrongfully arrested, and that Russia courts are corrupt... Espys again continue with that narrative

I watched Steph Curry first ten minutes. It was so awful

You can't turn around and call me that after I came up with it and called you it first.

I'm 99.99% sure that it is not allowed!

So, you watched it last night and you didn't care about it, but you got so triggered by hearing them talk about it on the radio that you had to come here post. Makes sense

And I know people that have gone through cancer treatment and are currently cancer free. At no point did I ever get upset that they weren't given some made up award. Yes, Mancini recovering and coming back is an incredible story. That doesn't mean that we should be outraged that he didn't win a comeback award at some meaningless awards show.

Diamond DeShields was nominated. She returned from getting a tumor removed that could have caused permanent paralysis and then dealt with tremors and spasms and then dealt with multiple legs injuries during her first season back. Where's your outrage that she didn't win?

1) who cares

2) not only did he tear his ACL, he tore his achilles before finishing the rehab on the ACL. It's an incredible story in it's own.
