Wondering if anybody has an opinion about what is the optimal time to end auctions on eBay in order to get the most bids.
For instance, do you find that your auctions do better when they end on a weekday vs. weekends? Is a certain time of day better to end an auction (like 10:00 PM EST vs. earlier in the day, etc...)? Any advice/opinion would be appreciated. Thanks! |

I've been doing Sunday evenings for about 15 years now. Don't know if there's any hard data but it's what I do.

Best: Sunday night.
Worst: Weekday mornings. |

I too end Sunday. I figure the big auction houses do it that way. it makes sense when most people are home Sunday evening versus Friday and Saturday evening. Weekdays most people work and are tired and might not look at eBay. Not sure if it makes sense but that is what I have been doing

From my buying and selling I've noticed that day of week does not really matter, but time of day matters quite a bit. Try and keep it in prime time for the Eastern time zone. From there it's just random variance. Some days auctions will end higher, some lower. No telling a week beforehand though.

I always would end my auctions on Sunday nights, but make sure you avoid Sundays of a holiday weekend. I learned that lesson the hard way.

Thursday nights are best; followed by Sunday and Wednesday. Friday and Saturday are best avoided.

I run auctions 7 days a week all ending around 10:00 EST.
From my experience, Friday nights are the worst. |

When I have a card in mind that I want and follow all the auctions that are up for that card. They all end around the same price, so IMO it makes no difference.
This one ends at 3am on a Wednesday, I'm gonna get a steal..............nope, same price. |

Also, several years ago, someone on Net54 ran some numbers, and the data showed that Sunday evening closings did the best. I don't know if that still holds true, since everyone seems to be more auction/eBay savvy and the closing day may not matter as much. |

Occasionally I like to have some lower end stuff end late at night (8-9pm pacific for the late auction jonesers who have to win stuff before bed.

I did a piece on this where I followed auctions of similar cards based on timing. Weekends during peak hours, generously defined as 5-11 Eastern, ended up selling for 108% of the price of BINs for the same cards and non-peak weekday hours on average sold for closer to 85% of BIN values. Pretty big swing just based on timing. Of course, there are always exceptions.

sunday night for sure.
Conversely, Ive found lots of good deals buying on Friday and Saturday nights. People are out on social extravaganzas and I'm sniping cards at 65% value. Heheheh |

I've actually found weekday mid/late-afternoon to be a decent time to end my auctions. Everyone has the eBay app these days and poeple get bored at work. Plus the "odd" timing brings in a lot of people who think they will get a steal.

Part of the difference is likely due to the cards I included. They were predominantly trendier cards and likely to do a bit better in auction format than most other cards. I also had some strict limitations on the wording of auctions and image quality which likely kicked out some lower quality auctions. I had the same limits on BINs, but I have a feeling those things matter more in auction format.

I think it makes sense. If the lowest BIN are 150, 150, 165, 250 and the guy heats up those BIN get scooped up and auctions start landing at $180.

Time isn't the only factor in price. Title makes a big difference and location. I've seen some amazing low prices from sellers selling in Korea and Canada. A lot of people aren't willing to wait a month for it to reach them.
