This woulda been a great OT thread to eventually get derailed by a wetdown.

I'll go with early fall 2002, before the release of Windows XP SP1 started slowing down boot times. Before the big push on cybersecurity, when the internet was somewhat more innocent and pop-up ads were defeated by a simple pop-up blocker. Ebay and Yahoo auctions were viable. Smart phones weren't a thing. No facebook (2004), no Youtube (2005), Geocities were still a thing, passive aggressive away messages in AIM were still a thing, and MapQuest existed along with broadband and LCD monitors.

That’s why I asked in here as I knew if I put it on the main off topic like you said it would’ve disappeared already. I know technology will never stop but there comes a point when enough is enough.

Just throwing this out there. I wonder if the cavemen thought the wheel was too progressive. I guess it is a stupid idea to suppress technology but just because something new comes out it doesn’t necessarily mean you should disregard the old.

Technology is both great and evil at the same time depending on what technology it is.

I love going on a trip and no longer having to use an atlas, printed out directions, or an external GPS system and instead just using my phone to guide me to my destination.

I love no longer having to call a hotel to make reservations or print a reservation out and instead just reserve it and pull it up on my phone.

I love no longer having to put CDs in my car and carry a ton for long trips. And instead of trying to find a radio station each time the one you are listening to fades out, I just listen to the music I like on my phone through the car's speakers.

Even Facebook has it's uses. I love being able to see photos of my grandchild and keeping in touch with friends and family who don't live around me. I love having all the things I like in one place instead of having to go to hundreds of websites a day to see what's new. I love being able to share photos and railfan information instead of having to go to tons of sites to research or just show up somewhere with no knowledge and wing it. If only Facebook would eliminate political sites, commenting on news sites, and some other discussion topics, it probably would be a better site and stop dividing people.

Evil is the 24 hour news channels and opinionated news. The news was much better when you just received local news and a half hour of US/World news that were always fact driven. No competition trying to beat the other channels to the story so they get it wrong. No agenda hit pieces based on undisclosed sources which most likely don't exist or have axes to grind themselves.

I’ll give him credit. No matter how many vacations he has to go on he always sticks to his views

He is taking a forced one year sabbatical, whether we see him again around these parts remains a mystery.

How's the movie business Soxfanguy?

I did take my wife to see Maverick in the movie theater. I have been watching all of the Marvel stuff on my Disney+ though. The new Marvel stuff just seems too hit or miss on whether I'll like it to tempt wasting a lot of money at the theater.

Thanks for asking. Movie business is decent. Top Gun is still doing good and the summer was strong but now August and September are going to be very slow. Last 3 months of the year look good though. I’m very excited for 2023.

You are not kidding. I know so many people under the age of 35 who can't even make eye contact with me when having a conversation. (Another softball for Glen)

I could see why he got the big suspensions but I’d be lying if I said he wasn’t entertaining to have around

Something I never knew and I don’t know why I didn’t know this.

On January 31st 1959 Buddy Holly performed one of his last concerts, in Duluth Minnesota there was an audience member that would go on to be a very big influence in culture.,his name none other than Robert Zimmerman otherwise known as Bob Dylan.

Speaking of that, I wonder if they are going to bring back the politics thread for midterms. Now that would be entertaining. Slap fights and vacations galore. Fun to eat the popcorn and watch

Maybe a couple of years after that. There wasn't much pond scum on ebay at that time.

Writing something down is also all but obsolete. Digital everything.

I can get along with you on this, even though I still use cd's in my car and do not have facebook.
