WAR captures what a player does. If they are good enough to play multiple positions well, it measures that when they play them. No metric is going to capture what someone might do. Versatility can be defined and qualified. Utility players can qualify for the utility designation by playing several positions regularly enough. Players like Ben Zobrist played all over the field and had no primary position.
