I really loved the 2010 2010 Panini Americana I Century Collection and the 2011 Panini Americana Hobby boxes. I know that the 2012 and 2015 seemed to tank but i still loved breaking them. So my question is do you think they have stopped making them due to the last two flops or are there more in the future?
Besides the usual "properties" hobby boxes. i liked the variety of autos as well as other different chases (space shuttle liner, ect) in the Americana line. We also had Topps American Pie and 75th Anniversary boxes. |

Wouldn't shock me. I actually just had them replace an outstanding redemption for Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio from 2015, she still had yet to sign.

I have the same redemption. What did you get instead? Did they give you a choice? Thanks Sent from my LG-H873 using Tapatalk |

I had three outstanding redemptions, they asked if I wanted to replace card for card or combine for 1 card, since I knew the other two weren't that much I went ahead and combined for 1 card. My Mastrantonio was unnumbered.
2015 Panini Americana (2015) Signatures #28 ( / )Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio 2017 Panini Chronicles Baseball Chronicles Autographs Gold Card#23 ( / 99)Orlando Arcia SS 2012 Panini Momentum Football Rookie Salute Signature Card#11 ( / 99)Cincinnati Bengals Dre Kirkpatrick Cincinnati Bengals CB They asked for my teams and players that I collect, and replaced them with the below. 2016 Panini#@Immaculate Collection Premium Patch Rookie AutographsCard#2 (45 / 49)Michael Thomas New Orleans Saints WR Michael Thomas is one of my PCs, so I was very happy with the replacement. Value wise, hard to say, most recent of those that sold are $44 and $54, but they replaced this last month and there were a couple higher comps, so who knows. Either way I'm happy. Of course I replaced for football, if you want something nonsports not sure what they may have to replace it with. It's a shame, because they had some great astronaut cards in those sets. Upper Deck had one astronaut auto in last year's set and a bunch of space relics in this year's set. I liked Panini's stamp/auto combo cards.

I'd also like to see another Americana set.

The market is there, they just overproduced and had a weak checklist.

I'd also like to see them pick back up with the music related sets. I thought Country Music was a well done (besides the autopen debacle), though it too was overproduced.

I really miss the 2008/2009 Donruss Americana set. They had a Directors Cut insert set which had character names and show quotes written on intentionally used cuts. Casting Call cards had multiple actors on the same cut. This is when Donruss was around so probably never going to see that kind of product again.

I don't care about country music but hasn't it been a few decades since we've had a pop music card set of all the popular artists? In the nineties, there were several mass produced sets like MTV Raps and Pro Set Music Superstars.

I think they are due for a new one of these. The newest one is finally drying up with some autos selling more what they should go for. For a while, this one was a fun rip that could deliver very well when boxes were super-cheap.
Challenge is everything has to be individually licensed and there can be constant image changes and "yes-no" scenarios. Individual licensing is also why a music set (mentioned above) is harder. Plus you have to balance who is worth their higher costs vs. will their presence in a set actually drive sales. Not as easy with rich celebs.

I figured that I opened about 2% of the production run myself. Loved that set.

Nothing firm. Last one was a bit of a dog at its original price but if they went the mini box pack-wise with a hit per pack like they do with most other stuff these days (a build for breakers), I think it would do better.

Americana was great the first two years when Donruss did it. If Panini took that route or even design I'd be happy. Much like I think Pop Century was better as a Razor product than Leaf.
That said it's definitely time for something new |

The 2010 premiere edition was from Razor. The nine annual sets released since (plus the sketch based 2014 "Masterworks" set) have all come from Leaf. Other than the chrome "upgrade" that started with the 2018 set, there's not much difference between any of them.

Resurrecting this post after several years with what is hopefully a basic question for some of you. What is the difference between retail and hobby versions of the Americana cards. Specifically, on the base set, is there a physical difference between the two like card stock, finish, or something else? I've checked several checklist and info type sites, and it seems the hobby boxes came with an insert per pack etc; The retail (I'm guessing blasters) could contain only base cards and perhaps one hit per blaster box. Would the actual base cards in both offerings be identical and the difference is the actual packaging itself?
Thanks for any clarification! |

On the 2007 release, hobby base cards had silver on the left and bottom of the fronts that refracted in the light. The retail had the same front, but nothing refracted. Very easy to tell the difference between hobby and retail base. Can't tell you about and release after that as I only opened boxes of the original release.
I do know most blasters from other releases could contain an auto, but odds were very long. You usually ended up with a relic. |
