very interesting! Also very interesting to get hundred year old material we are supposed to trust, when they can't even spell a name right.

Still searching for the 2001 UD Vintage Fantasy Outfield with DiMaggio/Mantle/Griffey.

But otherwise "complete", including all of the individual cards.

Great set. Thanks for sharing! I remember when this set came out. There were packs near the cash register at 7-11. I picked up a few packs one day and pulled the Boog Powell bat card (still have it). I was so excited. I was at a different 7-11 a few days later and, again, they had packs of UD Vintage. Again, I picked up a few and pulled a.......Boog Powell bat card.

Time to Boogie

I have a similar story. I pulled the Joe D bat card from a Rite-Aid and I was immediately hooked, especially as a Yankees fan.

Trying to assemble the entire 2002 Fleer Fall Classics set... set is just shy of 800 cards total, over 300 GU pieces (mostly HOFers), and I'm down to about 60 cards to go. I'll make a full post later but I suppose I can show off a couple of the big pieces I have relevant to the thread.

(full disclosure, this may be my favorite card of all of them. How often do you get a 3-color jersey piece that's a non-patch?)

I love this idea. Been trying to find a way to focus a collection. Are there any brands out there to avoid in this category?

Those are some fantastic collections! I've always been a sucker for early-mid 2000 game used, especially Fleer.

Edit - by the way, if this interests you, you'll want to search "Conlon" as well because people can't spell his name for the life of them - including Leaf! Way to go Leaf! His signature is literally on the card!
Thanks so much for Conlan heads up! I picked up the signature version since it was sitting there under $20. I'll update the HOF list shortly to reflect Jocko Conlan's game-used existence.

Unfortunately when it comes "game-used" EVERYTHING is subject to scrutiny. There's just no way to know if it's 100% real or not. Collectors tend to be more trusting of earlier stuff since trading card companies had less elusive certifications. It's basically a faith based decision to collect game-used. As for brands I personally try to collect players from MLB licensed cards. However Brands Like Panini and Leaf are always adding new "first time" HOF members so I have no problem adding them to my collection either.

I always laugh when I see the picture on that Dick Williams card. I pretend Dick told the photographer to get his good side, so the photographer went behind him.

I'm up to 168 out of 209 (41 left) on my GU list.

Most of the big ones are still left, and I have some strict requirements around what I will pick up.

People are starting to catch on. Early 00s donruss/fleer/UD had very specific COAs on the back declaring this is a game used piece from X player. The 2000-2003 Era donruss cards even went so far as to provide a photo on the back of the jersey the swatch came from. Leaf certified materials from 01-03 is going to fetch a premium, but checks all those boxes and then some, and the card designs aren't bad either.
Newer topps and panini have COAs that say something to the effect of "the enclosed materias does not come from any specific game, event, or season" so they may have cut up some vintage dress shirts for all anyone knows.

Is this a new pickup (as in the one that just recently sold) or have you had it a while?

Love it! I've been on a HOF kick with real GU as well. Given Poopini (by and large) sux aside from the few peices shown here, I genuinely enjoy real game used pieces. Have been buying them in bunches in prep for a PSA break

Oh yeah! I use to be into this in high school back in the day before prospecting in 06. It was one of my first niches!
