In all honestly I don't really like it. The MVP Award should just be the MVP Award not the Michael Jordan MVP Award.

He’s the regular season mvp and Bill Russell is the finals mvp

Bobby Knight once said Michael Jordan is the best player ever and Bill Russell is the most valuable player ever. I think the league has these two important awards correctly named.

Didn't Russell play when there was like ten teams in the league? Hard to compare to what MJ had to deal with.

It's cool, but at the same time, one day the league is going to change the name of some of these recently named trophies, just like they're changing the MVP from Maurice Podoloff to the Michael Jordan.

I just don't want the NBA to water down naming all these things after guys because there are always going to be new guys coming up who could surpass the current name-bearers.

What is the NBA going to name after Steph? Giannis?

I think they should just reserve this kind of thing for transcendent players who had an impact on/off the court.

I know, the talent was less diluted. He pointed that out to Jordan once. That he wouldn’t have won in 93 because paxson would’ve been up in the stands instead of on a roster. Of course Jordan could’ve found a different way to win. Just saying You beat what’s in front of you. Nobody else back then won 11 titles and 5 mvps.

All valid points. But here is the big kicker for me. If MJ in his prime entered the league today what would happen? If Bill in his prime entered the league today what would happen?
