Post I'm a noob in Trading Card owning a potential High Value Card - NEED HELP

Hello guys,

I have so many questions as I would like to make this card graded

I own it for more than 10 years now but start to understand it can have high value. An equivalent of it (with purple jersey) is on sell on ebay around 6k$, still I have no idea of its potential value and i'm not even sure to sell it anytime.

Facts
I'm based in Europe
I love trading cards but not an expert at all. I discover grading a few months ago only

As I think you are all mainly based in the US things are quite easier for grading your cards. So I wont ask you this tax/border/shipping issue i'm facing right now and ask more local TC fans. (it could cost me around 1000€ with insurance in total + super express grading in PSA)

Still I have some questions for you:
- Any preference between PSA and BGS ?
- I have ordered sleeve and card saver as you can see on my photo. Is it all good for you ?
- How could I have an idea of the card value? I need to declare something for insurance in sending ?
- Will PSA/BGS remove the protection to put their own once graded ?

If some people are in Europe, do you use any service to ship cards overseas ?

Thanks a lot for any information you can provide (and sorry for my bad english)

1) PSA is considered the leader despite being totally incompetent at doing their job of validating cards are unaltered before getting grades, or doing proper analysis of autographs. Although BGS is not much better.
2) Yes, the card is ready to submit.
3) Looking at the rough bottom left corner, the declared value would be whatever the raw replacement cost would be. If you can get a NM card on eBay for $6K, then that would be your declared value.
4) Both companies would take the card out of the sleeve and seal it into a hard plastic case with the number grades on top.
5) shipmycards and other re-shippers are popular, but at this price level, do you really want to trust a middle-man with it?

Condition is everything really, you have to look over everything under a magnifying glass and good lighting. I can see by the front top and bottom corners they have a bit of whitening which hurts the final grade.

When i first graded some cards i made the mistake of looking at them thinking they were good but ended up getting poor grades.....and poor grades means less money when selling.

In terms of grading from Europe, search around any European card pages and ask around. Im based in Australia and we have a few people who sort and send off group submissions here so there must be loads near your area

Awesome Card! PSA right now is the most popular because a high grade will bring you the most profit. BGS is a distant 2 but that could always change in the future. I personally like BGS on some things because I like to know the sub grades especially on Gem Mint or better cards. Looking at it im guessing it would be be probably around an 8 with PSA and 8.5 with BGS due to the corners but for this card, Kobe Auto #/5 the 8 grade really wont hurt it much at all plus it would be a good move to have it sealed to protect it long term.

As far as the international shipping I really can't help you out much there but would go with Fed-Ex, DHL, or UPS if possible and would want to get it to PSA/BGS as fast as possible. The less hands that touch it through the shipping process the better.

Thanks guys for your feedback. Then I start to wonder if spending 1K in the grading process is really valuable as I would not get a very high grade.

(And I agree I am not really ready to trust a middle man with it... Less hands is the best option for me.. for sure.

def a sweet card

If you're not gonna sell then I wouldn't grade right now

if you do wanna sell I'd sell raw and try to get around $1,700 usd for it (sticker)

looks like it'd grade in the 5-6 range with psa

Mmm, so some people tells me it could get between 8 and 9.. and you say 5/6

https://www.ebay.com/itm/154386083530

What do you think of this one ? does it look better ?
I was also told that white jersey are rarer for Kobe .. so maybe higher value. I should not expect more than 1.5K ?

Very nice card, the bottom left corner alone puts it at a 7 at best in my eyes. Cant tell much else from picture.

You never know with PSA... 10's could come back 6's, and 6's 10's. So you never know. I'd grade it and keep it. Kobe auto is a solid card.

Looks like a solid contender for a PSA 7. slight whitening on edges and corners. Off centered on the back. I would submit it regardless just to get it in a slab. Let us know what you end up doing and good luck!

I agree with PSA 7. I think you should wait until their full services open up and then grade it no matter what. That card needs to be protected. I would personally grade it and keep it for another decade, then re-evaluate. GREAT CARD!

Send it to bgs, for $150, no upcharge and a little more lenient on corners

I would as people have said keep it raw with the whitening and wait for the value of the card itself to appreciate. That is a top 10 percent design and a great looking auto.

Since that card has issues, what I would do is to grade it as "authentic" with PSA with a 10 auto. That's a perfect look for that card IMO.

This is where i'd lean to. Enjoy the card. The expense, time and risks associated with shippinh and getting it graded just aren't worth it to put it back in a box.

I have subscribed to PSA Collectors Club, I think I'm about to send it soon with a declared value below 1,499$. Will also send a steve nash on card auto /50. and a few pokemon cards i pulled luckily from my last trip in Japan.
Will keep you posted on how it goes. Have heard recently about some lost items, a bit scared but I want to have it sealed..

I don't know how to navigate the website pricing page anymore. What i used to do is buy the collectors club vouchers. I bought like 20 of them once. It was the best deal they had. You got like 15 grading vouchers for $200 something like that. I don't know if they do those anymore, doesn't look like it from what i'm seeing.

But it does look like they have the option to buy a collectors club membership for a one year $99 subscription? And it's $18 per card. No idea if you get any grading vouchers with it or not. Doesn't look like it but probably still the best deal. That is what i'd do. I've never put the high declared on the card. It used to be like $500 and under. Let them figure it out and upcharge you if the card is deemed more valuable. They will call you trust me. Had it happen. That might be your best route unless you have to have the cards back super fast.

If you do the above just make sure you deactivate the $99 recurring subscription because it looks like it auto renews each year.

I dunno do whatever you want. I am only half awake but that's what id do though. To each their own good luck.
