The people that are taking advantage of the situation by trying to maximize their profits (regardless of what I or anyone else thinks) have that right. Just as the people who want to make a list and keep track of those people have the same right. If you have a big enough of a problem with it just stop giving them business. People boycott business for moral reasons all the time.

On a side note. I believe a person possibly dying on the field is much different than an ex player passing away from old age, much as I view the same as lets say a police officer or military member getting killed in the line of duty over passing away from old age. Losing someone is sad but how and when do factor into the equation.

I'm sad for both of them, and also their loved ones.
With that said, I've lost elderly relatives and I've lost relatives who died at a very young age. One led a very long productive happy life and met a normal life expectancy, the other led a short productive happy life but was denied a lot of simple pleasures in life, retirement, children and grandchildren among other events most of us get to experience throughout our years.
I watched my father lose both his father at the age of 82, and his son at the age of 30. I know which death took a harder toll on my dad, and I remember distinctly how much more compassion family and friends showed when my brother died compared to my grandpa's death.
Compassion isn't black and white. Age isn't the only factor in my eyes. Each and every incident has its own story and subplots which to me is an indicator of the amount of compassion shown.

You should change your signature to the news article you linked in the other thread. That way everyone in every thread you comment on knows that you said you donated money by selling a card. That's probably the best way to feel high and mighty.

Note: I think it's a great thing to donate to charity, but you don't need to constantly beat people over the head with it so you feel better about yourself.

Counterpoint: There are much bigger things in this world to worry about than reading about someone doing something good.

If it really upsets you to see threads showing off fundraisers, then be consistent and go tell everyone who was a part of JZ's Toys For Tots thread that they're doing things wrong.

Otherwise, lay off the guy.

Sold for money and kept it, that’s ok.

Donate the money, now you’re a bum.

Or something like that.

Quit showing so much common sense.

That was a very nice gesture and if you're going to sell at a time like this hopefully you showed people how to do it the right way and they follow suit. Its good PR for the people doing it regardless of reasons and its a win for the charity. One of the few ways to make the best out of such a terrible situation.

Counter counterpoint: No.

You can keep patting him on the back, but I will not because it appears to me that he's only looking for attention. I think it's a good thing what he said he did, but mentioning it once should suffice, it didn't need an entire new thread.

Edit: I've never seen the thread you mentioned, so I cannot say whether it was good or bad.

Out of curiosity I took a look at history of Hamlin's Prestige Autograph RC. They were going anywhere from $400-$2k around the time this thread started and yesterday one sold for $20.50. It was around a $5 card prior to injury.
