Default 2018 Rafael Devers X-fractor Auto redemption

I recently opened a 2018 topps chrome update mega box and was lucky enough to pull a redemption X-fractor auto of Devers. The redemption is unfortunately expired. Do I have any options besides the care package Topps offered me on the phone?

Thanks in advance for comments

Not really I guess. Do they ask questions or take input for the care pkg?
With it being expired they certainly aren’t expected to do anything other than say sorry dude. I wonder if kissing ass and being super polite and understanding with the person on the horn might get you a more attractive package? Like A vs B labeled care package?
Ah the mystery… I hope you get something nice and collectible for your call.

I sent in an expired 2018 Archives Devers redemption last year and sent it in and got the card. Although I guess they probably cleared out a lot of their unredeemed redemptions in the fall during the Chrome fiasco.

It sounded like the care package was a pretty vanilla, everyone with an expired redemption get the same package kinda thing. I was very polite, but the gentlemen on the phone was more or less, yeah it’s expired and this is what we can offer you. Wasn’t very reassuring.

I hit an expired decent Star Wars gold /10 auto. Customer service said to send it in that they would redeem it. All they sent me back was a stupid hanger pack of Solo, I am guessing that was my "care package". Absolute garbage. Now since I sent it in to them I don't even have the redemption anymore to back me up. Redemptions are the worst PLEASE make them go away for good.

Most likely, you're out of luck unfortunately. As others have said, you may get a few random packs of cards or a Henry Owens autograph as a consolation prize.

If Topps has the card in inventory, what do you think keeps Topps from wanting to actually redeem it?

Is it that they don't want to make folks that attempt to redeem, but they don't have inventory, feel bad?

In the end, I'm not sure this latter case is any worse than the OP not getting his card.

Unfortunately, that's the risk you take when opening older product. I don't like expired redemptions either, but you better just take what you can get because they don't technically have to offer you anything at all.

That’ll never happen.

No, it won’t. BUT Topps could push out expiration dates.

Opening older boxes is part of the hobby, but it’s certainly less enjoyable and alluring if the high-level redemptions are obsolete.

Inventory takes up space, space costs money (storage, insurance, etc.).

The hobbyist in me agrees that two years is rather meh, but the realist in me knows that they realistically can't hang on to those forever.

You figure they trash the cards after a period of time? Somehow I’m the optimist that they keep them forever

Otherwise, wouldn’t it be better for them to sell to collectors at points in time?

They clearly hold onto some, 2022 Chrome Silver pack updates had some previously unredeemed cards in them if I'm not mistaken.

I think if they “keep” them that there would be some type of insurance declaration? Likely speaking out my butt, but wouldn’t they have to keep an up-to-date account of all assets and their potential value on site?

Did they say what’s in the care package?

Last expired one I had was a Freddie Freeman 2014 Chrome rookie auto redemption about 3 years ago, and my "care package" was a random /199 Freeman Triple Threads relic (I think from 2018?) and 2 packs of 2016 series 2

They can’t just sell the cards. There’s all sorts of legal issues with that. But they have given stuff out at events or through twitter promotions. I bought a 2015 NSCC Jose abreu auto from A guy that won it on twitter from topps. The old etopps catalog used to have autos and relics offered here and there. I got a yogi bowman heritage red ink auto that I regret selling from the catalog.

Three years is probably the best they could do. Unless you want poopini rewards points.

This is why Redemptions should be a “bonus” not the “hit.”

Non-redeemable redemption reduces the print run and makes those in hand more valuable. Those holding in hand don't want more to be redeemed after the expiration date.

I agree that inventory takes up space but card companies agreed to push the product out before having the cards in hand.
I have always thought there should be no redemptions period but that is wishful thinking on my part.
