Default Card Ladder - Question

I just signed up for Card Ladder. I am new to all this and wanted to look at Jeremy Pena cards. I can't find any Pena cards in the index or the ladder. I can add him to the collection section. Is there a reason he is not in the ladder or index?

They upload cards & players manually from my understanding. Once/if Pena becomes big enough to hit their radar, you will see some cards creep onto their platform.

Thank you. They must have a high threshold? Pena cards have been commanding good money since October. Or maybe the platform is for much larger spenders than me.

They do focus on bigger players, cards, price. They also (use to at least) lean more basketball, followed by football.

I did not know that, thank you. Is there a better service for baseball?

You could check out Market Movers, don’t know if they would have him or not.
Note -I don’t subscribe to CL or MM but there is a dude on here who is WAY anti-Card Ladder, just waiting for him to weigh in.

If you are using Card Ladder to track baseball cards, you are SOL. They only care about basketball cards.

That’s good to know. I was going to get the app but since I only do 100 percent baseball this will be an easy pass !

Thanks

These two answers exactly. I was gonna say a version of the same thing.

The guys who run the app do a weekly show called "The Crossover" where people send in topics for them to discuss. I always listen to it. It's a solid listen. Last week I asked a question related to baseball cards and the first thing one of the hosts said in response was "because baseball sucks."

Card Ladder thinks modern baseball is lame and pay very little attention to it. Listening to the two guys on their podcast it's clear they don't have an affinity for baseball.

They aren't really big sports fans though. They only like 2 sports. It is inexcusable for their product to only cater to basketball cards though. You don't need to love sports to have a great database in the product.

Default Card Ladder - Question

What’s the point of speculating and following pricing on cards if the initial layout doesn’t equal at least a mortgage payment?
The entire high end modern pelican boy segment of the market is fueled by people who don’t have a strong grasp on real world financial realities of most Americans. Country club humans who view a couple thousand dollars as shopping mall chump change. Hoops and football modern markets are ridiculous from a middle class living perspective. Even after the big tank.

Any facts to back up this statement about adding cards manually? Real facts.

I’m not sure about now but they stated in the early days of CL that they did everything manually. They checked every single sale, it’s validity, etc. I’m not sure how they do it now. I stopped looking at the site when I realized it was of little use to me, my collecting or my investments.

They were supposed to add many more cards when they were acquired by Collectors Universe. They quickly reneged on that.

I use it for easy access to see what the most up to date previous sale was. They include sales from ebay and all the auction houses plus my slabs. Nice to have sales information on super rare cards that haven't sold in years too.
