Well its been up and on one of the biggest "high roller" card facebook groups for 16hrs. It's still avail. Apparently, its not worth more than $45k. And definitely not worth the prices you were quoting just recently.

How is a 2019 card sold in 2022 of a different player a price point?

Both /5 10/10cards of superstars from the same high end Sapphire sets.

It’s also hard to find another direct comp on another of the /5 cards graded a 10/10.

I think the price point wasn’t used as much as a determining value on the JRod as much as it was saying hey, a similar Vlad card did 54k, the JRod may be more than the 45k ask.

Even if it were the same exact card, you can't use a comp from 1 year ago when the market has completely changed since then.

The market was strong 1 year ago (pre-tank). The market is much weaker now and only gets weaker by the day.

Exactly, I was using as a similar comp but also understand it was sold a year ago. Nobody thought his 1st Bowman Atomic Auto was worth $14k either, until I sold it for that amount.

Useful comparisons would be with cards from the same set even if color, rarity, or even the player, aren't the same. Picking the goldin example is like trying to pull a rabbit from a hat.

In fairness, that auction was 45k before the buyers premium I believe, so the JRod seller is likely using that as his comp. He clearly either thinks he's not going to get 45k for it, or it's a good time to fire sale JRod. It's not just about what the card "should be worth." Anyone with 40k cash to drop on a card has significantly more nice options available than a year ago.
