One Jumbo Box down for me (two still incoming from Topps)
6 Shiny Gold, 5 Rainbow Foil, and Two /2023 Gold Christopher Morel Rainbow being the best.
1 Green - Jesus Sanchez
1 Greatest Hits 2022 /299- Ohtani
1 Advanced Stats- Brandon Drury (Blech)
1 Black- Not Bad, Rook (Greene and Miggy, nice card likely keeping it)
1 Adley Rutschman Baseball Stars Auto (likely sell due to sticker but great hit)
Pretty awesome box.

Thoughts: I like the Aces inserts a lot. The 88 design is great for the silver pack treatment. I'm likely going to do that set. I HATE the manufactured relic. If they are going to do them at least make them cool. You get an appreciation for the depth of the rookie class when going through packs.

Bought a stack of Hobby packs at my LCS today. Hit the hit in the box - 1988 swatch featuring: Craig Biggio. Now I’m off to COMC to understand how many checklists he has been on recently.

Nice cards, I like. 1983 homage is right on schedule.

Yep. Headshots every twenty years. 2043 should have them IMO.

Look at series 2 2022 boxes….sealed is still selling really well. I doubt 2023 topps sealed goes below 180.00 ever…unless this roomie class stinks the bed

Biggio had a relic in S1 last year too. Oh well.

Next question: with the Home Run Challenge cards, do different players get issued in different quantities? It seems to me that later on, there are wildly different quantities of them available on COMC.

I pulled a total of 10 autos and really only one no name... I think. There are other good cards, I just have to sort them all out later.

Here are some of the highlights.

Oswaldo Peraza Vintage stock /99
Trout Heavy Lumber
Julio Rodriguez Independence Day /76
Silver Pack auto Ke'Bryan Hayes /50
1988 Base autos of Baty, Gorman and Ethan Small
1988 Black auto Bleday /199
Baseball Stars auto Garrett Mitchell
Baseball Stars auto Jesus Luzardo /50

And... all 3 boxes at the bottom of the case had a Reverence Patch auto
Dansby Swanson /10
Ozzie Albies platinum /5
Vlad Guerrero Jr platinum /5

As mentioned and discussed here, Jumbo cases are feast or famine.

I opened a Jumbo case

I had 6 Autos, and the best one is World Series Champion Javier /25
Total of two parallels in my silver packs, both off centered L-R.. Gold Morel and Orange DL Hall
1 SSP, Ketel Marte

Every one of my Trout, Judge, Rodriguez, Rutschman, and Henderson are way off centered and I'd say 30-50% of all base cards have very minor corner dings. I was hoping to make and sell some sets, but I'm not sure that will be possible due to the quality.

Retail will have the shiny “Stars of MLB” inserts in heavy quantities. 1/pack, 4/hanger, 7/blaster, something like that.

Sealed series 2 case of 2022 is $1,000 basically, tops

I think these settle back down to $180 and if this is a poopoo rookie class, even more. I don't think it will rival 2021, that would be pretty embarrassing.

Absolute best case I guess would be 2019 series 2 prices which got up pretty high.

There's always a heavy demand at first, and prices sink.

what is helping 2022 S2 Wax is the possibility of the First Flagship Cards of JRod, Witt, Tork. They are only in packs. All the Rookie Cards of note in 2023 S1 will be in all versions of Factory Sets

Right I get what your saying, but there’s still A LOT of money being spent on baseball cards right now. The amount so many of these are going for is impressive. I remember buying 3 Acuna 18’ Update SSP white jerseys for a total of 750 at break. That won’t buy you a single Harris SSP at the moment. And I’m aware yes this isn’t the update of 2018 but it still stuns me to see so many players cards selling like this right now..

Pics of the best four from my Jumbo box. I thought the black had a typo but it got pointed out it was an exclamation point and not an I.

I'll never forget watching my 2021 Update Kelenic SSP get bid to $810 (from maybe $50 that afternoon) in the closing seconds, and PAID right away. At this point in 2023 Topps, you can COMFORTABLY open the bidding low.

My .02..... I'm not after this card.
Reserves just guarantees you get comparable value to what’s on the market. In this case there was only 1 other that went for $1900 after being listed for $5000. I’d like at least that. I’d hate like many others who didn’t have reserves on things and really got screwed over.

Reserves guarantee that you reduce bidding interest. I pass whenever I see someone has a reserve.

I broke 3 boxes of Hobby ordered before seeing pack odds and I regret that decision immensely. Most boring 3 box break

The Positives:
Well, just 1....2 #'d Autos out of 3 boxes

The Negatives:
Only 1 gold /2023 of a common
Only 3 additional #'d card 1 of which was an insert - non insert /299 and /300 and insert /75
1 #'d Silver Pack card
Autos of No Names
7 Common Rainbow Foils
Most packs contained just base cards

I am not bummed because of the No Name Autos....It was great getting auto in 2 out of 3 cases even if they are no names since I really don't buy Flagship for autos. VERY bummed because of the lack of anything but base cards when it seems like Jumbo boxes are loaded with color.

STAY AWAY FROM HOBBY - Buy only JUMBO

Must admit, i'd be happy with that haul from Hobby

Well... LOL...

So my five "I might as well pre-order a handful, even without pack odds out yet, because hangers are always bangers, right?" hangers came today.

Of the better names in rookie base, Gorman, Baty (x3), Peraza, Pasquantino (x2), Casas (x3), Gunnar (x2), Harris (x2). Plus a couple rookie cup JRods. That's some very lucky collation.

And then when it comes to performance against pack odds, well..

Royal blue (x2) (1:3, so basically as expected from 5 hangers) (one is Blue Jays team card which is actually a cool color match)
Rainbow foil (x2) (1:2, so about as expected) (bonus: one is JRod rookie cup)
Stars of MLB Chrome (x1) (1:5, so as expected)
Home Run Challenge (x1 Chisholm) (1:10, so this was a coin toss)
Gold (x1 Trevor Story) (1:15, nice)

...and a 1:203 SSP of Luis Robert.

I still regret pre-ordering before the pack odds came out, because holy crap was I lucky to even get that much out of these.

Half way through my Hobby Case. Ripped 6 last night. Hopefully will hit the other 6 tonight

Nothing incredibly noteworthy from the first 6…

Trout Red Foil /199 (OC)
Bubba Red Auto /25 (Dinged Corner)
Nolan Gorman Auto (OC)
Juanny Red Relic /25

No color in my first 6 silver packs, but I did hit a Money Mike at least.

2 Indy’s in 6 boxes.

Yup.

If ever there was a card that should be a redemption (and made before release) it’s these. And I hate redemptions more than most.

These cards are WAY too nice to be circulated in packs

That entering though…

I’m not necessarily faulting them for doing it, just pointing it out. It’s at least somewhat akin to the 1989 UD Griffey though, where the perceived scarcity of that card, when lcs’s had tons of them, propped up the value, when they show “only 5 left” on their site when that’s not entirely true. “Only 5 left” at that price, maybe, but plenty back in the warehouse. Not the most ethical of business moves, in my opinion, but it is what it is.
