Default Con10ders

I thought it would be cool to have a thread where people post scans of cards they think might get a CGC 10 and get people’s opinions (preferably prior to submitting.

I will start… with this Scarlet Witch Future Watch… is it a Con10der?

That's cool! Impossible to tell from a pic but send it! It is a con10der.

So I just got back 5 cards I submitted to CGC. I got back a 10, three 9.5s and a 9.

The 9 was the card I was sure would be a 10 and it came back with the lowest grade. The 10 was the card I was sure was a 9. The 9.5s I thought would be 8's or 9s.

It's so arbitrary, the difference between a 9 and 10...who knows? I bet I could resubmit the 9 and get a higher grade.

I wonder what the general opinion of CGC slabbed cards is within just the non-sports community. I know slabbing isn’t a big deal but, you’d think, with CGC you have the slabbed comic connection established.
I’m tempted to send some non-sport autos in someday.
Just wondering,
Vinny

Three of the cards I graded were for my PC. They were epack parallels that I just wanted encapsulated so I remembered they were rare parallels and not base cards in case I sell them in 10 or 20 years. The one that came back a 10 was a Squirrel Girl FUSM Rainbow Parallel that took me like 3 years to finally get 100 base to combine. I'm sure I could sell that for some nice money, but I have no interest in selling right now.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to grade sketches or autos, as the grading won't really impact their values. I own several PSA graded big name nonsports autos that I got for less than the ungraded versions. I think a lot of nonsports collectors are set collectors and prefer their cards ungraded, so they can put them in binders. I never put my cards in binders, so the grading doesn't bother me.

I think grading can also hurt the value of some cards, like PMGs, if they come back with like a 6 or 7 grade. They'd probably be worth more if you busted them out of the case and sold them raw.

Grading made a lot more sense when you could bulk submit for $8 a card. At the current prices of $18/card for PSA and CGC, it just seems too expensive if you're trying to make a profit.

Thanks Rictor, that’s what I’ve been hearing the last few years. I may do, like you, just some slabbing of PC items. My PC is really cards I gift to young relatives lately. Not being in the hobby, they get a big kick out of a slabbed card of anyone.

Prior to February 1, 2023, when COMC began submitting Marvel cards to CGC, I had never submitted any cards for grading. I’ve now submitted nearly 75 cards with 25 already processed.

I think the service is great for users like myself who have been on ePack a long time and have amassed sizeable collections of stuff that likely would never have made its way home anyway (not just on ePack but stuff sitting on COMC as well).

I’ve mostly been slabbing low numbered stuff and putting all COMC sales proceeds (both slabbed and nonslabbed card sales) back into slabbing more stuff. My goal is to fully fund my slabs and PC purchases with COMC sales credit, but I’ve already cheated a few times and added credit out of pocket.

I think it’s also a good way to clean up your account and rediscover some items you kind of forgot you had and bring them back into the spotlight of your collection.

I don’t think I will ever submit stuff from home to CGC but as long as COMC offers the service I can see continuing to do it for my low numbered ePack items.

Excellent points here. I have a modest epack collection, but there are a lot of PMGs I have that are of no interest mailing home, so slabbing and selling for likely more than it costs to slab is a big deal to me.

The potential for funding other things is attractive to me. Wish this service was live during the hot marvel period.

Its been fun going through the collection and finding forgotten cards and gradable cards.

That’s an awesome slab! Those rainbow foils were tough to make!

The price of wax has also doubled in that time so I guess it makes sense that other areas of the hobby are also rising as well. It definitely limits what people slab. It will probably weed out a lot of the lower end stuff where it’s basically grade 10 or bust.

Con10der?

Anyone have any luck slabbing these? This was a cool subset in MA2016.

How would you grade this one? Front looks off-center based on larger gray border on left of card vs right… but how much would CGC ding for that? Or maybe even all Ripken cards in that subset look the same way as it’s an homage card. It’s hard to say for sure since ePack is all the same stock image for this one.

Resurrecting a dead thread because I refuse to let a good pun die so easily… lol.

What do you guys think of this one’s chances? Does centering make it unlikely to 10?

I'd guess you are looking at 8.5-9 because of centering. Little heavy on the front left side/back right side. Also, might be couple surface imperfections two columns right of the word WOLVERINE on the front.

Yeah… I think I will throw it back. Thanks for the feedback!

I elite scanned this Truffle Shuffle (best card of 2024 btw)… is it a Con10der?

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

I know it won't get a 10 but I'm hoping psa will be real nice to me and give me a 10.... it passed the comc pre grading so they are saying at least a 9

Cool card! Lower left front probably keeps it from 10. So with pregradw, if it comes back lower than 9 does COMC refund grading fees?

That is a good question that I have no answer to....

I'm cheap so normally I don't do the pre grade option but I was kind of curious to see what they'd say since I know pmgs don't always grade well... this is only my 2nd time doing pregrade and the first time it failed... I graded it anyways and they were right it graded an 8

I agreed with them on the one that failed but I wanted it graded just because I like how cards look when graded...

I think the pmg will at least get a 9 because it looks noticeably better to me than the card that got a 8

I didn't pay to get an elite scan on this because it's just a cheap card... I like the card more than I'd be able to sell it for on comc so figured I'd grade it with cgc for my graded collection...

Centering wise would this be in the range to still get a cgc 10?

On the orange Thor… I say go for it! That’s a Con10der!

I elited two more Truffle Shuffles. Looks like condition will be an issue on this set.

First one has HUGE gouge in lower right…

And the other new scan has white showing lower right. So back to drawing board to find a Con10der.

This one showed up today too… probably the cleanest of the 4 I have elited so far. This one still has a rough corner most noticeable on upper right back…

Yea I'm thinking at least on centering and all it has a good shot at a 10.... I wanted to also grade some inserts from throwbacks but after getting elite scans on them it looks like centering on the inserts is pretty bad

Good luck finding some nice condition Truffle shuffle cards

Got another elite scan back today. I think I will PSA this is one. Looks pretty solid overall unless someone else spots something otherwise.
