Default Does anyone else submit cards even though it won't receive a great grade?

Not that it matters if others do it but was curious.

I have some cards I like that I want to put in holders for aesthetics. Probably would not grade well.

when selling the card i have.

simply to avoid grade chasers wanting to return it because it was only going to be a 7 or 8 instead of the 9/10 they were after.

Yes, ultimately I want all of my collection in slabs so I'll send some off that I know are not going to gem, and that's ok.

Yes, but I don't send those to PSA. I use a different grading company that have really nice slabs, great customer service, and a much quicker turn around.

Yes but mainly because I prefer my stuff in slabs.

I have a 2011 Update Ty Cobb Hope Diamond /60 in a psa 5 for this reason.

I have - just a few that I wanted encased and have no intention of ever selling. And I send them to Beckett. I just find their slabs more aesthetically pleasing than PSA or SGC.

Yes.

I have a few cards that are rare (think rookies and stars longevity, true RC, #’d to 15) or I have a Patrick Willis Chirography true rc, #’d to 15.

Have some 5’s and 8’s. But all PC/registry stuff.

Plenty of times. When a PSA 6 adds $50 in value and you know you won't get worse, sub that beauty in a bulk order and pray for the upcharge.

Low-pop cards, sentimental value cards, cards you just want authenticated. Rarities for registry collectors. There are many reasons to do it.

I found this in a box of old papers in my childhood bedroom closet last year. I am now working on a PC of Rookie cards of HOF players beginning with 1969 (year I was born). This is the only 1 that will be low grade unless I find a good deal on a 7 or above. What do you guess....2 or 3?

Based on that pic alone, I'd say a 3.

I just sent in 10 cards to PSA that I don't think will grade higher than a 5 and aren't worth more than 50 bucks. I don't care, I want them slabbed.

I've sent some Upper Deck Sweet Spot autos knowing they wouldn't grade well. I just wanted them slabbed for my PC.

Yes, with very old cards typically. Tobacco-era and earlier. I do this especially with very odd issues that I may not even remember what they are years from now.

Had a Derek Jeter Little Son rc Auto that had a bad corner. The card was his most forged card. Many people were forging his auto. Had a 7.5 if memory serves me but the authenticity of the auto that was vital.

I had thought of trimming down my Darren Woodson parallels/rare inserts collection for a while so, before PSA shut down, I sent in nearly everything (other than the few that grading would not matter on due to being extremely rare) and kept only the 10's.

Yes, I graded this one for sentimental reasons:

I got this as a kid when Curt Flood signed it for me with a ball point pen. Back then, it destroyed the value of the card getting it signed, but I didn't care because he was incredibly nice to me.

I eventually just wanted it slabbed to keep/protect it and it got a PSA 3.

Was pleasantly surprised that the auto got a PSA 10, but I didn't even care about the grades really.
