Schmidt isn't a bad comparison but there is a big gap between his awful first season (ignoring the super short call-up) and Kelenic's abysmal first two stints. There really aren't that many guys with sub-80s OPS+ that magically turn it around to HOF careers. I can't find any HOF hitter that would equal Kelenic's first two seasons of awfulness. He'll be a historic turnaround and very much the exception rather than another in a long list of guys that have turned things around if he keeps things up. Some guys go from average, or slightly below average, to great, but almost none go from awful to great. FWIW, I think he will continue to do well and hope he does and will be that exception that will keep people investing in prospects that should be considered busts for a good long while.

looking for comps as usual. the kid is in his very early 20s. Not one of you i guarantee has ever played a game above HS. thrown into the fire and failed. cant think of many that have struggled not only physically but he was clearly struggling mentally. when doubt seeps in you get frozen. none of your abilities play. im glad he is succeeding, i dont know the future for him but im not counting him out over his first two seasons.

I did so that blows that comment out. I know for a fact there are many others on here that did as well. To your other point, you’re right. Alot of these guys come in having played years of high level travel ball where they were young studs, who translates into HS studs and either went to college as big time prospects or minors out if HS, and had little to no struggle. The majors is a whole other animal. MLB pitching is perhaps the hardest opponent to face in any pro sport. The fact that these hitters can do what they against them is incredible and for any hitter to have struggled the way Kelenic did and come back after adjusting is awesome. Will he be a HOF? Who cares it’s just fun watching young players come back and overcome adversity. We’ve seen too many “can’t miss” Bowman $tuds turn into duds. Hope he keeps it up. I’m selling a few (a few) at the moment but will hold onto most of what I bought over past few months. Definitely keeping this one for awhile.

Should’ve posted this that came in a few days ago but kept forgetting to. Took less than 10 days from pulling the redemption to getting this in my hands. I guess Topps did have a year to get the redemptions back though.

Crazy to think Juan Soto is only a year older than Kelenic.

Didn't Devin Williams break his hand and miss the playoffs by punching the dugout just before the end of the season? That all seems forgiven now.

This is the nail in the coffin of his hobby relevance, correct?
