Default Trouble Moving Low-End PSA Slabs ($35-$100)

Anybody else noticing a significant slow down in sales for PSA cards of hobby-relevant modern superstars in the $35 to $100 range? This used to be easy money but stuff just sits for me now. Wondering if it’s just bad luck or wider trend.

Could be the PSA price premium bubble popping and buyers realizing they can purchase the same cards slabbed by other companies for cheaper?

Baseball card market seems to be slowing overall.

The Pandemic is over. All the get rich quick guys who entered the hobby during the pandemic are now getting back to their previous lives and cards aren't part of that.

The pandemic was such an extreme bubble that it's bursting is going to be extreme also, similar to how "the bigger they are, the harder they fall".

At the rate of falling prices I consider $35-100 mid to upper-mid end lol.

Easy to fix..... Set listing to Auction style, set opening bid to 99cents.... Works every time!

That seems to be the easy value range for me to move. Maybe just bad luck or specific cards?

Yep, OP probably talking about crazy high pop base or stuff from garbaggio sets. Stuff at this level for big names moves just fine provided there is at least one dimension of rarity via pop report, SPed, or #ed, preferably more than one.

Agree with this 100% and realize right now on a lot of stuff you probably aren't making back your grading fees. This is why you don't grade 100 base Rc's that sell for $3-$5 raw.

500,000 of these type of cards will be returned by PSA every month. 6 million cards a year that are sub $100. It will get harder and harder to break even.

$35 slabs used to sell for $100+, some of them.

Yesterdays $35 slabs might not get a $0.99 bid from me when shipping is $5. Especially 9s. Junk. I always moved the 9s ASAP for that reason. Wish I'd moved more 10s of course, but what can you do about it now?

It's tuff out there if you're not first.

This for sure. I am doing more auctions and the prices have been very strong. The key is auctions, as it has been said and lower pop cards. You have to ask this question….will somebody else pay a premium for this card. If you say no, do not send that card.

Wait until people see how tough it will be to flip all those base 2023 RC’s in SGC slabs in a couple of weeks.

They will say they are PC items. Well that is what they will say when they can't sell them for $5. The National will have some great $1 slab bins this year.

And people thought it would be PSA slabs in dollar boxes. The time for grading base Topps paper cards, even at $9, is way over. I cannot believe how many people are sending those cards in. Most will not get the grading fees back. I for one do not grade to make 2-3 dollars on slabs.

A bunch of those on myslabs for a little while now. All sitting in the $13-15 range so they are losing money after grading/shipping/fees

some of this junk.... smdh

edit: the problem the SGC is that there about a gran total of 10 people that actually want an ultramodern card in an sgc slab, so once they have it,, the value goes to zero. There a pile of Gunnar Henderson 10s on comc starting at $20

SGC fans have some kind of mental defect that blinds them to all logic and reality.

I simply do not understand the logic in grading these cards just because the price is $9. SGC is making a killing and those grading them can only blame themselves when their money is thrown away. Very one who hits an SP/ssp or a rare card knows to send it to PSA, even if we hate it. I used SGC as a test company only. That made my decision easier to send a submission to PSA for a condition sensitive set. I went 24/35 in PSA 10.

There are tons of SGC loyalists who are 100% convinced that SGC will eventually catch up to PSA in resale value. They're out of their minds.

If you deal in REAL cards like Vintage, SGC is on par with PSA.

In most circles that really know what they are doing (present company (you) excluded), SGC makes PSA look foolish. Love the non-believers.

Gday!

We are all aware that SGC is viable in vintage. 2023 Bowman is not vintage. Hope that helps.
