I will probably crack out the one below and send to SGC/PSA. The color is absolutely gorgeous on this card. Having that crimped plastic sleeve is just hideous.

Beautiful Musial. The 50, 51, and 52 Bowman sets are my favorite sets. The images in these sets are so lovely.

be just as ugly in PSA ... I think it looks good, but likely just how images are vs. in person.

vintage looks better in SGC usually

Felt like almost all the 10's crossed and a healthy amount of the 9.5s.

These vids were from at least 3 months ago, so if Discodan is saying they tightened up, maybe they are back in line now. My theory with the half grades lower is based on Beckett grading. PSA/SGC look at card and start at a 10 and see if flaws knock it down. Beckett uses the subgrades approach taking the four subs and figuring a grade. Something with a 9 corners can get bumped to gem mint if all the other stuff is perfect. Where as, SGC/PSA look at a dinged 9 corner and it will stay there. So CSG is "correct" in the way they interpret the grade as is SGC/PSA.

I hope I explained that good enough. I really like the CSG cases and am rooting for them to keep getting traction, but when people see bad cross video, it doesn't look good. Should have just kept subgrades mandatory from the get go and the 10 that didn't cross is easily explained with a 9 corner sub or whatever.
they may not have wanted the work, but if they had this new scale + new label + free subgrades ... I think they would have had 3x the business they have now.

The majority of people don't want subgrades. People only want subgrades when they don't think they get the grade they deserve and want a reason why their card graded lower. People also associate subgrades with Beckett, and that is not a good thing.

I guess other people want subgrades to crack out and cross to PSA, but that just means they want a pre-grading service and not a CSG slab.

I think the mistake was to make it optional AND $10 upgrade. The extra $10 was just too much and an added costs. If they just had subs and a $5-7 higher base price from the get go, would it make a difference? The slightly higher price point also may remove the stigma they have now which is where you send your cheap modern cards. Maybe the higher price point wouldn't give them enough traction at all, who knows?? I was expecting $5 upcharge for subs when they first opened.

There is some truth to this. Helps the masses weed out the good crossover candidates.

I want subgrades, just not paying an obscene price for them.

Operational consultant suits must have found providing them to be very inefficient, hence the highway robbery price tags in 2023.

It makes sense from a business NOT to offer them as it slows things down and also allows more scrutiny from the public.

However I personally feel that it would have been a recipe for success for a company like CSG to take them over the hump. They are competing no doubt about it, but I think it would have been the extra notch they needed the past year if they didnt charge for subs.

HOWEVER they could also do something else that makes folks happy, but less of an impact as to the above ... if they got away with the thick slab price hike & auto fee.

Or at the very least ran some specials where its waived fee.

That would bump up some order volume. Their thick cases are miles better then all competitors.

I would send in another bulk order if I could get thick auto cards graded for $10.80!

I have sneaked one or two in before as well without an up charge. However, I think they would charge you if you submitted a lot of cards and things could get more expensive quickly if they followed their policy.

Default Card Sleeves

They seem to be putting more and more cards in sleeves lately. I was disappointed getting this card back and seeing it in a sleeve.
It looks really bad.

That absolutely sucks. Is it just arbitrary selection? I was planning on sending my Zac Gallen's in to CSG but if they are putting those sleeves on chrome cards, that'll suck. One of the things I hate about BSG is those awful sleeves. What a buzz kill.

It all has to do with the size of the card. CSG slabs fit cards perfectly. Anything above standard size needs to be thrown into a sleeve. Look at how CSG cards fit in the holder with no room to spare.

Ok, good to know, I was in a panic. I only handle bowman chrome and topps chrome with the occasional heritage chrome so i'm good to go.

Those cards may still be thrown into a sleeve. It depends on the individual card. If it is slightly bigger than 2.5 by 3.5 inches, it may not fit in the regular slab.

What’s going on with the CSG pop report? Haven’t updated it in two months?

I think it's been way longer than that.

Way longer. The update definitely is an issue, even if I still prefer CSG slabs for my PC.

Nobody knows? Does anybody submit to CSG anymore? No pop report takes months to update. Appears to be a move to conceal poor submission volume. CGC volume has been collapsing since the start of the year.

A lot of their online/registry information has been a total C.F. for a couple months now. When I emailed to find out why some of my cards come up as "Unknown" and why some good cards show up as being worth zero points, I was pointed to this generic explanation on their boards: https://boards.csgcards.com/topic/16...-csg-registry/
