Default PSA Reholder pricing $25???

Does anyone know why PSA is still charging $25 for a reholder fee? It used to be $10 before Covid. I can also understand if they want to charge a higher fee for a declared value of $199 and up or something like that but $25 is just abusurd. It's less labor than grading and it only costs $15 (and probably going down again soon) to get the card re-graded.

I have about 10 slabs I need to get re-holdered but it makes absolutely no economic sense for me to send them in and I have a hard time believing that they're actually making more $$ as a whole re-holdering slabs for $25 than at $10. Volumes would go up dramatically if they just came down to something reasonable.

PSA knows people will pay this price for getting an old cert number into a new slab. They will then try to pass it off as newly graded and 90% of people won't know the difference. They can charge this price and still get business. PSA knows people will gladly pay a premium for a card to get into a new slab that would most likely grade lower.

PSA also doesn't care about the collector. If they did they would offer 70's football or 60's baseball specials. Their goal right now is to get as many ultra-modern cards into slabs, which are much easier to grade.

Do they regrade it or just put it in a new slab even if it isn't really the same grade anymore?

Put it in a new slab with the same grade and cert number. This is why the can charge a premium.

My understanding is that when you have a card reholdered the grade can be downgraded if the original card was overgraded.

Only if something is off with the current slab.

*Please note: All items will be automatically reholdered UNLESS (1) the sonic weld on the PSA case shows signs of tampering or (2) the PSA case is fractured over the item itself. If the case is fractured over/near the item, it will be examined raw to ensure it has not sustained damage and that the original grade is still valid.

Reholder info:
"For this submission type, the cards will not be graded."

I miss PSA before the company was taken private. I felt like they actually cared about the collector and as a public company we knew exactly how many cards they were grading and got a quarterly update on the state of the industry. Now I just feel like they're all about money.

Whatever happened to the PSA set registry? That's totally out the window because it's just not worth it to grade many cards at $15+ a card.

Grading prices are coming down soon. Just a question of when. Prices are back to where they were pre-Covid but PSA is charging $15 a card for bulk vs. $8 pre-Covid.

PSA is ignoring the collector and catering to the flipper. SGC is doing the same thing right now with their 2023 Topps and Bowman specials. That is why I went to CSG. They have a registry and are the only company right now that actually seem to care about collecting.

My guess is that its because of my dealer/level of dealer status.

I have seen others say that their cheapest is $25 as well which caught me by surprise the first time I saw that.

Us regulars see $25 as the option. Sad.

Do you offer this as a service to us internet poors, who might, for instance, have one cracked Willie Mays slab and don't want to pay the high fee for a reslab?

yeah I can. There is normally a $19 minimum return shipping from PSA as well. So the more cards included the more that will cut that cost down.

Can you tell us how we can submit cards to be re-slabbed at $8 through you? Would be much appreciated.

I completely understand if you charge a fee for your troubles. Thanks!
