Default How Do You Ship Large Sets

Trying to get rid of some "cheap" '80s sets. How do you ship an 800-count set relatively cheaply?

It depends how far it's going.

If going far, like across the country, USPS Priority Flat rate will likely be cheapest.

If you have it in an 800-count long box, it will just barely fit in a USPS medium flat rate box (not the small cube, but the rectangle box), if you put it in diagonally.

If you happen to have 2 400-count boxes, you could put it in those, and it should barely fit in a USPS Flat Rate bubble envelope, putting the 2 in standing on their sides. It's not easy to do, and a very tight fit, but should be possible. That's easily the cheapest option since that cost as much as like a small flat rate box.

If going close, like within a couple states over, it's probably best to just send in any non-flat rate box priority mail....dont think the difference would be significant between that and ground.

Thanks guys. I tried getting two (2) 400-count boxes in the bubble mailer originally and just didn't think it would fit. Tried again, giving it a little more "pressure" and I was able to get it in. Looks like that's my ticket.

Thanks!

Regular Priority is the cheapest, but its only a few bucks less than a Medium Flat Rate; so I tend to use that as I'm saving time and money not trying to find boxes

For a bunch of sets, you can ship in a Large Flat Rate Game Box - you can fit 5x 550 count boxes securely. (I have more success selling "set lots" from that time period rather than singles)

I am waiting until July to send out sets. USPS Ground Advantage is starting in July and might have the best prices to send packages and not use priority mail.

Checked out the USPS Ground Advantage proposed rates....retail rates aren't that great but commercial rates look decent. Would PayPal, eBay, etc use the commercial rates and retail rates are for "click & ship" online or in store?

They should all use commercial rates. Pirateship, which I use all the time, offers rates below commercial.

Would it be commercial through Sportlots? Looking at that platform, since Sportlots collects the payment, it's not clear to me how you pay for shipping items, other than Retail Click and Ship.

If you’re going with Sportlots you are own for shipping I believe, although you can still use PayPal shipping or ship Station which would be commercial prices.

Full disclosure: I’ve never sold more then a handful of cards at a time on Sportlots, and nothing recently.

They discontinued the Large Flat Rate Game boxes in January 2022. I used some up to 6 months ago and just tossed my last 2 boxes a few days ago.

Only one warning with Pirateship. They don't update shipping until the next day. Even through USPS the package will not be marked as received until the next day. It is strange.
