Henrik Lundqvist, Caroline Ouellette, Pierre Turgeon, Mike Vernon and Tom Barrasso have been announced as the Hockey Hall of Fame's class of 2023. Ken Hitchcock and Pierre Lacroix have been added as builders.
https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hoc...0as%20builders. I always wondered if Pierre Turgeon would make the HHOF and now I know. I purchased 2 of his RC's a couple years ago as I figured someday he'd get in. I wonder if the buyer of this card knew ahead of time he was headed there, or is what they've been going for? https://www.ebay.ca/itm/1988-O-PEE-C...orig_cvip=true https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hoc...0as%20builders.

Vernon with the stogie after the '97 Cup win is an all-time Red Wings moment!

Nice to see the King get one final crown! Wish he got a Cup.

I know the limits are 4 former men's players, 2 former women's players and 2 former builders per class; however, I think this causes the HHOF to be flawed.
Of the 4 former men's players, it seems like they always want at least one Canadian (Turgeon, Vernon), one European (Lundqvist) and one American (Barrasso). Next year, Pavel Datsyuk is the most likely 1st ballot inductee. Marleau and Rinne may eventually get in but probably not 1st ballot material. I have a feeling Chris Osgood might be able to ride the goalie surge and American card for a 2024 HHoF induction. |

If Mike Vernon is in then Marleau is definitely going in 1st ballot

Edit: you might have confused him with Jimmy Howard, who is American

Barrasso and Turgeon were meh choices in my opinion...
I would've put Mogilny in before Turgeon. Barrasso, IDK, I feel like you could've put a lot of goalies from that era on that Penguins team(s) and ended up with two Cups... Right place, right time for him... Vernon was definitely underrated for his generation, not sure if he was HOF worthy though. Not sure I'd wanna be voted in if it took 18 years to do it, but that's just me...

Agree, as much as I love the NFL. The HOF does feel watered down and i am generally a big Hall kind of guy. There 6 players, 1 veteran a year limit is taken as a minimum as well. While it is pretty easy to hit the 6 player max for current, it still feels like the voters make sure all six slots are filled no matter what.
