Default I can't believe that PSA is encapsulating these custom cards

Has anyone else seen these listed on ebay?

https://www.ebay.com/str/royalsports....m3561.l161211

I know that PSA is only certifying the autograph part, but I'm surprised they'd encapsulate these cards at all. I guess it's not PSA's problem, but there the creators of these cards don't have licenses to be using NFL/NBA/MLB team logos, they are ripping off the design of National Treasures, etc.

I just think it's a bad thing and I'm surprised a cautious company like PSA would go for this....

I can't believe he has 109 items sold.

They announced this like 15 years ago

They would slab custom cards to commemorate birthdays, kids, anniversaries, weddings etc… lots of members on this site have done it

Now using a picture someone else owns? Probably a grey area

That’s for someone smarter than me

But slabbing customs? Years and years of it

I agree. These are illegal. They use images, logos, designs, etc. that they didn't pay for. I know they're going to say, we're just authenticating the signature and nothing else, but just by putting it in their holder gives it a hint of legitimacy. I would imagine the only way they get pulled down is if Panini makes a VERO claim stating that they are using their trademarked designs and team logos that they pay licensing fees for.

That’s not what this is at all. It’s just slabbed PSA/DNA items. PSA the grading company isn’t even involved.

So what’s the difference then? I’m honestly asking

If PSA will slab customs (fair statement?)

Then why wouldn’t PSA/DNA authenticate customs as long as the autograph is real? They don’t care about the photo used just like if it was an 8x10 I printed off my computer

I’m clearly confused but I don’t see the difference

Clarify

The seller is shady as hell making these look like real cards. That’s a separate issue

I’m simply replying to the “don’t own the image” comment

PSA/DNA probably authenticates hundreds of things everyday where the image is a picture, poster, custom card etc…

Apples and Oranges. On top off all the other issues with licensing, trademarks, etc. these custom cards are so good they'll deceive some novice collectors into thinking they are purchasing something different then what they are. Especially when re-sold at card shows, etc. That's mostly on the buyer if/when that happens, but I just don't like anything about it and I'm very surprised.

Legit question, would they authenticate a card (card only) with an obvious fake signature on it? This isn't any different in my eyes.

The RC logo is definitely trademarked by Panini.

The PSA custom card holders have a green label

Ignore that post from me. I didn’t know that

My point is the same

Seller? Lame. He’s trying to dupe rookie collectors

But PSA/DNA isn’t doing anything except authenticating the autograph same as if I printed off an 8x10 at work or any picture or card I down own the rights to

The seller is the issue. They know what they are doing

I am very curious by what standard PSA is using to validate the authenticity of the autos. Did they witness all those superstars sign all those cards/stickers? Highly doubtful.

Given the overall shadiness of the cards, I wouldn't bet 2 red cents on the legitimacy of the autos. In fact, I'd bet highly against them being legit.

Do they employ 100,000 employees? Ever been to a card show where the PSA/DNA line is hundreds deep?

What do you mean did they witness those? Of course they didn’t

That’s the entire point. That’s why you get it authenticated… because they weren’t there

Wild post

I’m sitting next to an NHL player right… literally

If I have him sign a napkin can it not be authenticated? PSA isn’t here

Your post is so confusing

I asked by what standard PSA is authenticating the autographs. Your gibberish response is not particularly helpful.

As technology gets better and better, the idea of authenticating autographs that aren't witnessed by an employee of the authenticating company is just silly to me. There is no way that someone can be sure it's not a forgery, or auto penned. Dak Prescott 2016 Prizm auto's is all I need to say.

Are the cards hard signed or did the seller peel off Panini sticker autos?

Someday you'll have to explain to the forum why you get so angry at every post I make, even the ones that have nothing to do with you and simply ask an honest question about a process I gladly admit I am not familiar with.

Now have the last word which your childlike mind so desperately requires, little boy....

Good luck with that

My post above

What do I say to the NHL player sitting next to me? Wait for PSA?

And if we don’t care about authenticity of IP autos? I’m a totally fine with that

Different thread though

Yes, you are. You have a lot of posts, which you probably feel like gives some validity to what you say, but you don't make very good points. Maybe focus on quality, not quantity?

At first I thought that was what he was doing: Peeling stickers off legit cards. But upon closer inspection, none of the stickers appear to have the "Panini Authentic" hologram imagery.... one or two cards missing those words could be a bad picture, but not a single one I can see has it.
