No fault of his thus unearned. Throwing error on the catcher put the runner in scoring positon for sac fly. The guy just keeps on keeping on. Scary moment on the mound he's definitely a gamer!

What is also amazing is he is top 5 bWAR in pitching and top 5 bWAR in hitting as well as #1 in total bWAR! Greatness at its best.

Pitching triple crown update:

I’m sure that this has been discussed to death but to avoid having to go back through this thread and read the entire thing….

Why does the Bowman Chrome non auto refractors sell for so much more than his Topps chrome numbered refractors? Is it just that it’s a hitting image or is there something else? This doesn’t seem to be the case for anybody else.

A combination of the iconic batting image and the fact that it's Shohei's one and only "first bowman chrome" card as well as his only bowman chrome card with the Rookie stamp on it. He didn't play in the Minors so wasn't in all the different bowman releases before his big league debut. It's also a relatively short printed base card as it was released in Bowman Chrome, where base is relatively low compared to regular bowman and draft.

Collectors rallied to this card over all others during the (rather late) pandemic spike and it has stuck. Refractors (499) Purple (250) Blue (150) Green (99) Gold (50) Orange (25) Red (5) Super (1) are all the numbered versions, just the traditional ones so I think it helps that 2018 was before all the stupid random new colors.

It's what the collectors want that simple. The Mantle True rookie Bowman 51 is a distant 2nd to his 2nd year card Topps. Makes no sense.

Wow, what a money machine for those with the foresight. I always assume NOW cards have too high a PR as they are printed to demand, but sometimes a card catches fire.

Maybe a 10% chance the Halos can make a huge run and squeeze into a WC spot, in which case I think they have a decent chance at convincing Shohei to stay. Otherwise, sayonara probably. Will be sad to see him in a new uniform but change is the only inevitable. I was super bummed at that long losing streak right after the trade deadline, but I've kind of made peace with the whole thing now.

Even if they make the playoffs somehow I'm not sure it would be enough to offset the other 5 years of maximum suckage. They clearly went above and beyond this year to try to get him to stay, no reason to believe they'd keep trying after he signed with them.

Yeah I noticed that...that's insane. Raw are going for $40-50. I sold my stash too soon of course but I did snag a couple "cheap" PSA 10s last night. And JUST missed the 17/49 blue parallel...did someone on here snag it?
