I think the issue many have is that what's good for Franco, MLB, and the "hobby" really doesn't (shouldn't) matter. I absolutely hope the allegations aren't true FOR THE VICTIM(S). I couldn't care less if everyone loses every cent they "invested" in Franco. All I care about are the victims. If the byproduct of there not being victims is that all those ancillary things happen, then great, but that shouldn't be THE REASON why people want these allegations to be false.

I also think that some people might not want these allegations to be false is because the more false allegations that are presented, the harder it is for real victims to be taken seriously. Hell, look at some of the replies in the thread saying these people are just after money. That's the first reaction of some of these people when any allegations are presented.

The “industry” imploding is just a matter of scaling to mainstays like Topps. Fanatics may sell their stake, but as long as there’s a game, there will be trading cards to sustain those who truly collect.
Hype, breakers, influencers… they promote that which has been a loved past time for more than 4 generations.
Enjoy the hobby. If it’s easy money you crave, try another outlet.
Yes, there was a hobby before speculators, and there will be a hobby if they all leave for some reason.

But, how many ppl today still collect to complete sets? 90% of adults who open packs these days can't give their base cards away fast enough.

Topps/Fanatics/Panini have geared most of their products towards "hits" and outside of flagship lines, don't really care about completing sets. How many ppl try to complete NT/Flawless/Immaculate and whatever high-end product Topps puts out? It would be interesting to see how much Fanatics makes from flagship compared to other lines. Same with Panini and Hoops vs. their other lines.

I love completing certain sets (Topps 3D!), but I also understand most ppl are way more interested (and invested) in high end and pulling the "monsters."

Growing up, I remember when I was searching for that Kent Hrbek to complete my '89 Donruss set and was ecstatic when I finally found it! I doubt there are many ppl like that anymore.

It's fine. The hobby has changed. Ppl still collect, they just collect differently. More money involved, more speculation, more hype. More giant hits but more swings and misses, too. There are pros and cons. Overall I think it's good because we have more innovation and options. I'd rather have what we have now instead of what we had in the late 80s.

I agree to an extent. In any case, I don’t worry about the non hobbyists. They will always find something to gamble on. I don’t even worry for my fellow collectors who find something to collect from what’s offered. How any of us collect is truly up to each individual.

It’s the sentiment that the hobby is dead without speculators and influencers that I’m skeptical about. In many ways, they’ve turned the hobby into fomo induced schemes of hot potato.

So with Wander, he will stay on the Restricted List until … when?

Any word from Johnny?

That is all Bowman is, hot potato.

Until he’s either cleared of wrong doing and is free to return, or until he’s found guilty and will then receive some type of suspension/ban.

There’s also a scenario where he could be cleared in court, but still face a suspension/ban from MLB. (Look to the 1919 Black Sox scandal for precedent.)

Unfortunately too many people will play that game on eBay for sure. Buy, hold for 3 weeks for everything comes out, they make out if he’s cleared if he’s done In goes the return request. Sad but I’m sure it will be a issue

I know that Charles Bray started running card auctions in Burdicks card collectors bulletin in the 1940's.

I have a hard time thinking that this will be cleared up within three weeks. If I was selling any Wander cards, I’d list them with a buy it now above the authenticity guarantee level and then change it to an auction. I think once the authenticity guarantee has been triggered, that listing will go through it regardless of whether the listing is changed to an auction or the BIN is lower than the threshold.

I had 10 auctions end last night.

$0.01 starting bid on each with a $299.99 BIN. Authenticity Guarantee was active on all of them, but after checking out, 2 of them did NOT carry the guarantee - no idea why. I'm expecting those to get returned.

In addition, the authenticity guarantee WAS on both of these items, but now it is not there:
REMOVED LINKS - Khal cleared it up.

It was never on either item. They both have “collection” in the title.

I’m sure it’s buggy but all I know is for a few cards I listed with high BIN, when I switched them to auctions, they all went through the guarantee process. Heck one sold for $0.01 and it still went through the process.

And in any event with 30 day returns allowed, going through AG wouldn't really protect you much.

A whole bunch of BCAs got flashed into next week’s PWCC weekly for those of you still buying.

Watching IG'ers justify why people should be buying or holding right now, is hilarious.

2022 Wander RC's are the way to go.
Bowman's Best has always been a niche knockoff of Bowman collected by few.

Anyone selling Wander right now should be doing so with "no returns". Buyer has 3 days after delivery to claim it wasn't as described, but that is all they have.

Anyone who is selling Wander, and allowing returns, is asking for them to be returned.

I knew & said it would be a disaster quickly, but I didn't know they would decrease this fast. The train is off of the tracks completely. Imagine if some proof is shown. You can truly start using Gold /50 RCs as coffee coasters.
