Such a bummer. Baseball is better with Ohtani.

Ohtani winning the mvp was already priced in to his cards.

I will be curious to see how the sports cards market prices ohtani going forward. People say Wall Street prices companies for five years into the future.

What time period does the baseball card hobby price cards at? Five months? Five days?

Maybe Kyle Tucker if he hits .310 with 35 homers 125 RBI’s 35 Steals.

I am not certain, but would guess that TJ is required. Obviously that puts him on the shelf at least for pitching for a year. That is why I mentioned that whatever team is going to resign him, must feel good about how that surgery went and expectation of a full recovery. Somebody like the Dodgers won't let a year off pitching keep them from signing if they think he will be back full in 2025.

The question really isn't "Who can possibly catch Ohtani for MVP?" but rather "Who will finish 2nd and maybe prevent Ohtani from winning MVP unanimously?".

How often do pitchers come back from two Tommy Johns?

Matt Olson will now win 2/3 of MLB’s Triple Crown.

True, but his ceiling has taken a big hit. He's still going to be a 2x MVP ROY - and he'll obviously be a great hitter... I just wonder if the team that signs him would rather have him be a full time batter and perhps +RF than try to squeeze out 400 IP and permanantly wrecking his elbow - Feels like this could be the end of his pitching or maybe he just pitches sparringly - maybe just in the post season or something - all kinds of great storyines could still happen and he could win another 2-3 MVPs with just his bat...
It sucks and I hope he comes back and pitches but wow he didn;t get much milage out of the last TJS.

I could see him going back to being a once a week starter or as others have suggested, he could be like a part time closer.

He needs to get away from the Angels.

Not saying they "did this" to him, but it's time to move on.

Not very often. I've seen mid-40s being thrown about as the number who have had it twice.
And if half a season of Nathan Eovaldi is the shining example of coming back from two TJs... yikes.

Serious questions of whether he should be a SP ever again, which absolutely hurts his hobby and baseball value. Could he be a lights out closer instead? Quite possibly, but that doesn't carry the same value as a starter.

Nor possible for me to care any less for the Ohtani "investors" and pump and dumpers and the meme makers who compare him to Ruth when Ruth was out homering 90% of the teams himself.

I feel for Angel fans and baseball fans who enjoyed watching him play both ways, Who enjoyed watching him K 9 batters and go 3 for 4.

Yes his contract wont be as high as people thought it would be but he will still sign for F you money.

Terrible news for the mlb and fans. Still don’t understand why the Angels didn’t trade him at the deadline.

Lots of naysayers in here.

Yes, it's sucks his pitching career is likely over or at least vastly limited in the future, but he's still one of the games elite hitters and teams will still be clamoring for him come free agency.

If anything, with him concentrating on hitting, his offensive numbers might look even better when he come back.

The only way Ohtani gets into the baseball hall of fame is buying a ticket if he doesn’t pitch again, he’s 29 with 171 career homers. If Ohtani doesn’t pitch again he won’t win another major award in his career.

Turns 30 next year, we have seen how fast Trout has declined. Also look at Trea Turner who turned 30.
