It all depends on you:
if you like to gamble, then try modern (high risk/high reward). if you want a safer bet, then go with vintage. I don't think 2500 will be enough to buy a PSA 1 Howe rookie, but you could still go after a Beliveau or a Hull or a Plante. You could also pick-up a few great prewar cards as well with that kind of money. The OPC Series A Eddie Shore rookie is a great one! |

I would say a low-grade Bobby Orr rookie with decent eye appeal is a good spend of $2500. But you can get a pretty sharp OPC Gretzky for that price also. Maybe depends on the era you like best, but I’d say the Orr.

The oldest possible card with the best possible player and the lowest pop count. It's up to you to do the digging.

1) Vintage rookie, highest grade possible. Exactly who, I don't know, depends on what I see out there. Was thinking of '51 Parkhurst though, definitely want to pick up somebody from that set.
2) If I couldn't find the right vintage rookie, nicest Gretzky patch auto from The Cup. If there isn't the right Gretzky, I'd opt for a Crosby or Ovi. 3) Barring that, I'd go shield hunting, see if I could land a shield of a HOFer or modern day star I really like. Ultimate, Cup, whatever. Auto'd or not, doesn't matter. |

No chance for a decent PSA 1 Howe Rookie for 2500$
I’ll go with a the best Orr Rookie you can find for 2500$. You will be able to out your hand on a nice looking PSA 1

I mean, it might be a stretch but they’re out there. All the other suggestions above are great as well. |

McDavid probably has the most upside because he's an active player. If he can manage to keep the stats up for another 7+ years and snag a cup or two, there's plenty of room in his prices.
If you're simply a collector, can't go wrong with Gretzky as a permanent hold. |

A Gretzky OPC Rc. I have collected for almost 40 years and have never had one in my collection.

What does a PSA 10 Draisaitl FWA go for? The German Gretzky seems undervalued.
There is also a PSA 10 Pasta FWA on eBay for 2,500.00 CDN. Beautiful card. For reference the ask price for the same McD card is 40,000.00 CDN. Seems like these 2 players have room for profit growth. I'm just guessing though, vintage is probably safer. |

Bobby Orr rookie is probably the right answer. Far fewer of them out there than 99.

No kidding. Posts like this are usually flexing more than anything. They also translate into "I have $2500, what should I invest in". Let's all get out our crystal balls here...

That's a nice 1-2 year card budget in itself. I'm not even sure there's one card I'd like for that price so much as 5-10 cards between $100-$500 each. A dusty, low-end copy of Howe or Gretz vs. a nice auto on a modern card with great photography is an easy choice for me. |

I’d wait a couple months after the initial Bedard pump and buy as many of his Young Guns as possible. Probably about 10-15 of them depending on price. Then I’d submit them for grading with BGS. Hold for a couple years. A 10 pays for the entire lots grading fees.
I did this Matthews but sold everything in 2018. Average price with grading was about $150 and sold all of the 9.5s for $350 and a BGS 10 for $2200. If I had held on longer the upside was insane but who could have predicted 2020? |

I get uneasy owning any card worth more than a couple hundred bucks. Not super liquidable and if the bottom falls out you could be holding a very expensive coaster. A lot easier to move 10 $250 cards than 1 $2500.

It's difficult when the focus in mostly about potential profit. Buy a Caulfield FWA and pray he scores 50 than watch him score 32 or something. I guess if money is no object, than it makes things more interesting.
As far as actual talent right now, an argument could be made that Draisaitl is nearly as good as Jesus, not as flashy, but amazing talent. Easily a hall of famer and top 2 or 3 of his era. The risk seems minimal. Personally, I would go for a Pasta FWA because I'm a B's fan and the card looks sick. |

I feel like out of the 21-22 class Zegras is the better buy than CC. Far less expensive in many cases and IMO way more fun to watch.

Same here, $2k per card is sorta my cap but i like to stay under $500. I would make an exception for big vintage stuff like an Orr RC or a nice Bobby Hull RC, but not modern.
