Default How much would you guys overpay for a PC Card?

I’m currently considering a trade that would have me send a ton of traders the other way for a pretty great card for my nets pc. However, it’s definitely an overpay, by some margin. I normally hate to be a “card values over everything” kind of guy but what are your thoughts on overpaying/overtrading to get the card you want?

Depends on how rare it is

If it’s rare? I’ll pay whatever it takes

If it’s PC but I might find another one at some point? I’ll overpay but within reason

It’s pretty rare, I’d say a top 5/top 10 card to have, I guess I’m having some hesitation since the nets have such high player turnover

It’s a NT emerald RPA. Thing is it’s Nic Claxton who is a ridiculously cheap player to collect, this would be his highest sold card by some margin unless I missed his NT/Immaculate logoman sale

That’s a tough one as I get your question

Overpaying for a 24 year old dude that might bounce isn’t the same as overpaying for someone that’s been around

Literally the first article that comes up when you google Claxton is a Celtics trade (yes it’s a blog but still)

If it's rare, I'm usually willing to pay the price of the same card of a better player. Like if it's an all star, non-HOF player, I'd be willing to pay the price of a HOFer. Or of the card is graded, I might spend the price of 2 grades higher.

Yeah the nets have been consistently revamping the team so every player I add to the PC gets phased out in about 2-3 years tops. Aside from Brook Lopez we haven’t really had any long term stalwarts

If you’re collecting for the player it’s a yes. If you’re collecting for the Nets I’d probably hold off.

Why hold off on the nets part?

Why holding off on the nets? Think he’ll leave?

If I was a gambling man? Yes

At some point you’ll wonder why you overpaid for him

But you never know

Kyrie is a perfect one for me. I spent so much on that guy

I’m sure I’ll say the same about Garland in 4 years

I pay what something is worth to me. If that is not what the seller wants then I move on.

I would only overpay on Claxton if you are willing to let the card go to $0.

If it's truly for your PC and you have no intent to resell, it doesn't really matter what the overpay is UNLESS you can just buy one with cash instead.

If it’s a rare card and it’s a card I would like to have for my PC, I will pay however much I am comfortable to spend. I set a maximum price by determining what price I am comfortable walking away from the card if it goes too high. Since the card is rare, I can care less what previous sales were.

It’s harder to walk away from a card, then see it sell for a price I know I was comfortable paying at.

I'm a fan of Claxton - I think he's got a bright future. Hope you can pick up the Emerald.

I would not overpay on that card when there are 100+ other copies that look nearly identical.

Whatever price it will take for me not to wake up the next morning and not be mad that I didn't get after it.

How awesome is the card?
How long has it been on my radar?

Depends on the card (including condition).
