What else is he going to say publicly? I'm planning to fight with Arte and Perry in the offseason to ensure we are forming a contender?

The Reds would hang up on any trade offer as soon as Elly's name is mentioned. There is no scenario where they would trade him.

To take it even further, there is no way the Reds would take on that contract.

I'd bet on the Texas Rangers snapping him up. They seem to like grabbing Angels hitters who are past their prime.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the Orioles are a perfect fit in a trade scenario. CF is one of their positions of need (with the corners being relatively open to switch to if need be), tons of payroll flexibility, all the prospects to get a deal done without affecting their core/future, and close proximity to Trout's hometown while not being the local favorite team. Gives him a chance to be on a contender in a top tier division spending over half the season in close proximity to his family and friends

Something like Cowser/Mayo/Ortiz/De Leon for Trout and a chunk of salary paid down.

Would be neat to Trout in black and orange but I feel like the O's are content with Mullins in CF. The Angelos family would also be a pretty big roadblock, they can't even commit to paying their homegrown talent.

There's zero chance their owner would take on this contract. He's one of the cheapest in baseball

Yeah… no way the Orioles trade for Trout and his humongous contract. It would be Chris Davis 2.0. No organization does that twice.

He said no one does it twice, Angels have done it a dozen times. So technically he is right.

Elly is a good, not great, player that Ks at a SCARY rate. The Reds have (1) - ONE commitment next season, Hunter Green at 3million. The Reds have all positions filled with players that are better than Elly when McLain returns. The Reds would for sure listen on Elly if a top tier OF were involved - regardless of cost.

Buddy, Trout has a no trade clause. There's no way he'd wave it for the Reds

I think the better question is, why would any team trade for Trout? I have a ton of respect for him, and I hope he comes back and has a few healthy seasons. However, I don't think any team would give up legitimate assets for a guy that has missed half of his team's games over the last three seasons, even if the Angels ate a huge chunk of money owed to Trout.

You must be a real Elly hater if you think this is true. Small market teams (like the Reds) do not trade away young, talented players on pre-arbitration deals. They either lock them up long term on team friendly contracts, trade them during their arbitration years, or let them walk as a free agent. Elly may not have the best numbers this year, but he is the kind of player that puts butts into seats.

Becaues it's Mike Trout, the best player of the last half century. The Angels won't have to eat a dime and will still get an entire farm system in return. Only on a card forum would people be wondering why a team would trade for Mike Trout

History repeats itself a lot. Do we know what typically happens to aging stars with big contracts with past injury issues?

The team that gets him would offset a chunk of his contract just on merch and ticket sales so I don't think the financials would bother his biggest suiters (luxury tax liabilities would affect it though) . His injury history is definitely the deciding factor. I think if he stays healthy in 2024 and 1st half of 2025, the Angels might be able to deal him at the 2025 deadline for a pretty nice package or dispose of the last 18 months of the Rendon contract in the deal.
