https://1150wima.iheart.com/content/...-at-80-report/Just in it appears he suddenly died today. I know he was 80 but for 80 he seemed rather feisty the few times I have seen public appearances in recent times.
Sad news for NFL fans and Bears fans in particular. He was regarded as the greatest defender in NFL history pre passing rules changes in 78. Last edited by BlowoutBuzz; 10-05-2023 at 05:47 PM. |

LOL it's just an exclamation point, but somehow you're right.

I made the big decision and removed the exclamation point, hoping it will keep the thoughts about the legend as the point of the thread.

Because of my age he is still the LB of legend when I was growing up. The guy all LBs followed in the footsteps of. RIP.

RIP.
Of the Bears linebacking greats, he's the most legendary.

One of the linebackers that I idolized growing up. He was how I wanted to intimidate people. Rest in peace to the legend!

He was one of the truly feared players of all time ... watching old clips of him and seeing just how much he loved to play line-backer ... Loved his nicknames ... The Animal, The Enforcer, The Maestro of Mayhem or The Robot of Destruction ... Rest in Peace Dick

He played before my time but I’ve studied him and he is legendary. He should probably ranked higher on all time defender lists but those lists tend to have too much recency bias. I own a couple of his autographs and hope to eventually own his rookie card. Here’s to a legend.

I loved my guy Mad Dog Mike Curtis of the Colts(who died a few years ago at 77), even he would admit Butkus was the best.

A small group of mid 1990s teenagers were first introduced to Dick Butkus (and maybe only know of him) as Coach Mike Katowinski

When Dick Butkus discovered what was Twitter a couple years ago it was amazing. The back and forth and witty banter he had with randoms was hilarious. Seemed like a cool guy with a good sense of humor.
