A Topps Chrome PSA 9 goes for ~$1,500 right now. I can see dropping some for the reason you mentioned, but no way does it drop to $750 after retires.

It can.

I wouldn’t bet your life savings or even your life on it.

PSA 10 TC refractor is down 36% in the last year. I seem to recall people a year ago also saying LeBron was the safest bet. So how has that worked out?

Remember, LeBron Chrome was getting manipulated by Gary V and his clown friends even before the pandemic pump. Don’t be surprised when that card gets under $10k like it was in 2019. This is still one of the most manipulated cards in the hobby. Any copy that gets listed is almost immediately bid up to near market price.

Basketball cards have the largest following in the world.

Nobody in China, Taiwan, New Zealand, Australia, or the phillipines cares about Brady.

This has nothing to do with anything I said. All the speculators in China, Taiwan, New Zealand, Australia and the Philippines will stop buying him when there is no next championship or whatever to bet on. Speculative fervor is no respecter of borders.

They all buy high end basketball, have since the internet exploded why would they stop now? They’ll 100% factor into future nba card prices. Nfl players they couldn’t care less about as of now.

Why did they stop from 2021 to now? If they were still buying like they were, why have prices utterly collapsed? They either don’t have as big of an influence over the market as you’re suggesting, or they stopped buying like everyone else.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm not even 40 yet, but could never work another day and would be fine financially. Millennials get a bad rap, but there are plenty of us that could buy any of these pieces of cardboard and not worry about it.

I don't buy cards as an investment, I don't care if they end up worth 0. There is only 1 thing I'm investing in right now, and there isn't more of it being made.

Probably close to $1,200 today. It is crazy how much that card has plummeted.

What does Gary V say nowadays about NFTs? I don't know, I'm just curious if anyone does know.

He pumped them like crazy so I wonder how he rationalizes leading a bunch of people to slaughter.

I know he's said the reason he's stopped talking about cards is because when he does the market spikes. I don't buy it, but that's what he said. I'm sure he would say the same about NFTs.

Gary Vee Followers Have Lost 90.84% on Veefriends NFTs.

https://twitter.com/goldinco/status/1521322242822529024

EDIT: From the above article- Veefriends NFTs have lost 90.84% of their value in 15 months. Gary Vee already cashed out $122 million+ on the sale of these unregistered securities so he doesn't even talk about them anymore!

Anybody buying lebron to flip is lazy and doesn't deserve to make money.

I'm a lot older than 40, and so don't take it at all personally, and I too recognize as ridiculous the "Millennials are clueless and don't wanna work or grow up, blah blah blah." It's so reductive and simpleminded.

Then again there is this book called "The Postponed Generation" that absolutely NAILS these clueless, aimless, lazy, financially incompetent young people. They just don't wanna be responsible adults! It wonders what the hell they're doing and how the rest of society is supposed to deal with them. Some of you might want to read it.

Keep in mind, though, that it was published in 1985, and is about Boomers who are now in their 60s.

Boomers aren’t much better. Median boomer has about $200k in retirement savings.

The average retiree today is living largely on their SS check. Financial literacy and planning in this country is abhorrent.

Little do boomers know that Lebron rookies will be their ticket to financial security through the last days of their lives.

I think a big post-pandemic revelation will be that it’s not so fun to invest in cards when everything you buy decreases in price.

Many people will leave the hobby because of this and prices will stay low.

Bag holders will have a lot fewer people to peddle their cards onto.

Forget about making money, it will be more about cutting your losses.

I think we'll start to see people focus on the era of cards they like and only dabble in any modern stuff they really like.

Just like there's a lot of vintage collectors out there that don't bother with 90s, 00s and so forth.

For me I'm sticking to the key sets I like and grabbing what I can.

The pump game will always be strong for Rookies, that will burn many people as you say, but hopefully they hang around and learn. Or not. I don't care.

It's Fanatics that need to sell boxes. I don't need to buy. Unless they get Tim Duncan to sign. That'll hurt my bank account.

You will never lose when your intention is to collect, not make money.

I consider myself a collector and unfortunately it seems like I'm either constantly overpaying due to shill bids or the cards I bought are really in demand, cause most of the card I'm buying keeps on getting more and more expensive to buy. My gut feeling is that I'm getting shilled, so I lose money, but at least I'm spending less in the hobby nowadays cause I don't buy sealed boxes anymore.

I feel like I’ve made a big mistake investing in Anfernee Hardaway.

I think there's plenty of cards that have solid prices. But there are always shenanigans. PC cards for sale bring FOMO, not knowing if that card will turn up again. It's too easy to shill.
Just don't go over what you want to spend. I know I did recently by $200. Made up for it elsewhere on another card anyway.

You don't invest in penny Hardaway.
It's great to see my 90s crush still gets so much love.

As a day job I run the athletics program where I live, but there's no money in that.

I also have several business investments that are doing well and looking at adding a few more in 2024.
