Yes all Roiders, but in that era they were all huge
1985 Topps Mark Mcgwire
1985 Donruss Roger Clemens
1987 Topps Barry Bonds

Then Non Roiders (Maybe)
1989 Donruss Griffey
1989 Fleer Randy Johnson
1991 UDFE Pedro Martinez
1985 Topps Kirby Pucket

I have a big mountain.

Maybe something like

-1989 Topps Traded Griffey Jr
-1990 Topps Frank Thomas (NOF obviously)
-1991 Topps Chipper Jones
-1985 Topps McGwire Olympic

Trying to stay away from RCs like 87 Topps Bonds that have XRCs. Good argument could be made for 1989 UD Johnson, but it’s just so overshadowed by the Griffey in that set, plus I feel like it doesn’t get the hobby love it deserves, I guess because the pitcher aspect.

Edit: Updated to put the 85 Topps McGwire in, Im seeing enough raw copies on COMC and ebay below $10 to justify having it on.

1984 Topps Mattingly
1993 Topps Jeter
1985 Topps McGwire OLY
1983 Topps Sandberg (Boggs and Gwynn are good, but the images are lacking)

I find it wild that you can get 80s/90s big name iconic HOFer RCs for under $10 and then some 16 year old dominican kid who will likely never play a game in the bigs sells for thousands.

Don't worry, eventually the market will sort itself out.

I have been thinking that for the last 20 years. It hasn't happened yet.

I do have a crap ton of cool rookie cards though, still waiting to be a millionaire.

Great thread idea.

-1990 Topps Frank Thomas
-1989 Donruss Ken Griffey Jr
-1993 Topps Derek Jeter
-1985 Topps Mark Mcgwire

I could be talked out of the McGwire possibly, but the other three are locks IMO

Thomas, Griffey, and Jeter are probably your top 3 biggest names from that generation. Bonds/McGwire/Clemens/Ripken/Pedro/Randy are probably all battling for the 4th spot.

Really depends on the condition of the raw cards.
You could find beat up versions of 80 Henderson, 84 Mattingly, etc

It really grinds my gears that decent 1989 Upper Deck Griffey's are at least $40-50 raw.

They printed millions of these things and then more! Mine got lost to time and parents' housecleaning during a 25+ year collecting hiatus.

Really frustrating.

I really thought about making a Taylor/VanPoppel/Nied/Maas type list, but decided against it.

I saw Taylor pitch a few times in AA and invested a lot of money (probably like $80, but it was a lot to me at the time) in his cards. He threw as hard as I've ever seen anyone throw and his curveball seemed to dive at just the right time. Sigh. I keep his cards in a box with Todd Van Poppel and Scott Cooper cards. Scott Cooper! Imagine trading Jeff Bagwell because you have Scott Cooper!

1985 Topps Roger Clemens
1987 Topps Traded Greg Maddux
1989 Upper Deck Randy Johnson
1991 Upper Deck Pedro Martinez

1985 Topps Mark McGwire
1986 Topps Traded Barry Bonds
1986 Donruss Jose Canseco
1990 Topps Sammy Sosa

Why stop in the 1980's? You can get HOF rookies in the 70's under $10.

This is harder than I thought.

Locks:
89 Fleer or Donruss Griffey
93 Topps Jeter

Then I will go Topps Bonds and Clemens for their pre roid contributions

Or, UD Randy Johnson and Topps Frank Thomas.
