Corbin Carroll actually reminds me a lot of a young Mike Trout. The big difference is that Carroll has already learned how to selflessly lead a team in just his 2nd year while Trout is in year 14 just picking up checks and playing for only for Mike Trout.
Anybody on their rookie contract has absolutely no control what their team does except perform the best they can.

The issue with Trout is that he has missed so many games due to injury, he most likely wouldn’t have performed in the playoffs because he had been on the IR at the end of season or coming off the IR. The issue with having him on a contender is that the team that has him will be missing a $30+ million dollar player in the lineup in the post season.

I get that Trout's contract eats up a fair amount of salary yet the Angel's continuously bring in other players with large salary's to help out. Also, Bryce has a nearly $30 million a year deal yet he makes the playoffs. Corey Seager makes $32 million a year and he's in the WS. Gerrit Cole makes $35 million and generally is in the playoffs. Trea Turner (teammate of Bryce) in the playoffs with his $30+ million a year contract. Carlos Correa is 30+ million a year yet he was in the playoffs as well too. In fact, just about everyone making $30+ million a year has had plenty of playoff experience...except Trout.

Pujols signing and underperformance for a decade where the Angels continutally missed the playoffs, definitely Trouts doing.

Shame on Trout

The Angels signed Pujols, Justin Upton, and Anthony Rendon to contracts totaling $605 million!!!!. For that insane amount of money, they've gotten a combined 18.2 WAR. Trout is a terrible GM.

Add CJ Wilson and Josh Hamilton to that pile and it's $800 million for 26.2 WAR.

Angels paid Trout $2 million for 27.2 WAR 2012-2014

I haven’t seen or heard of that card variation before.. but I also stopped collecting Trout variation cards when Topps produced way too many variations that got out of hand.

So sorry I couldn’t help

Since Trout was drafted, the Angels are the only team in MLB to not win a playoff game. At some point, you have to look at the guy and realize he just aint the guy to lead a team. He doesnt bring that grit or intensity, and that spreads to everyone else on the team.

His stuff is cheaper now so that might make up for the extra variations.

Ketel Marte had a pretty good season this year for the Dbacks. 128 OPS+ and solid defense at 2nd base in 150 games. The last Angel not named Trout or Ohtani to have a season that good was Torii Hunter in 2012. Moreno ditched Hunter for Josh Hamilton that offseason.

Gary Matthews Jr. anyone?

They had a stint where they loved overpriced Rangers.

I was done when Topps would release all these variations, which made it way too difficult (and expensive) to collect:

-SP
-SSP
-SSSP
-SSSSP
-SSSSSP

On top of that, then they added parallels to the mix

The Angels were in 1st place 5 of the previous 7 seasons before Mike Trout. One season they came in second and won 89 games. The only real star on that team was Vlad Guerrero.

Every single post you make shows me how little you actually understand about baseball.

In two of Trout’s three MVP seasons the Angels finished 1st to last (74 and 72 wins). I guess they would have finished in last if he wasn’t on the team? Clearly a generational player who really elevates his teammates.

The numbering would prove that it may be a Costco Short Print, I didn’t know that Costco sold cards.

Am I the only one that thinks Trout will be largely forgotten by the hobby in 10 years? A great player but now oft injured, no postseason success, and no personality.

Trout seems like a great guy but feels ripe for the hobby to move on from him quickly unless there is some catalyst in the opposite direction.

Nope not for me. Mike Trout dominated for a large part of my life. He’s getting a lot of hate and flack from the boo birds who weren’t fans to begin with and there’s a lot of recency bias going on here since he’s been hurt alot the last few years but when his career is winding down, I’m willing to bet the opposite will occur, people will realize wow he was a great player and maybe we were misconstrued on how heavy the hate was.

How many players since 1980 or so have spent a decade at the top of the hobby and was the best player in the game for 8-10 years and then was forgotten? A lot of card collectors are nerds and look at him as the undisputed best player of the 2010's and will always think of him that way regardless of the injuries, lack of playoff appearances, etc.

Trout has a Sarduakar army of Jaylens and Coltons who are just starting to enter the workforce. He was a God to Little Leaguers from 2012-2019. US175 is still a fantastic long term hold, there's only 88k of those cards!!

Only on Blowout would anyone ask about Trout being forgotten lol. It's incredible that people can be so absorbed in baseball cards yet so disconnected from the actual sport. You guys are the same adults that buy pokemon cards and graded toys right?

Trout's BCA will also go down as one of the most famous cards. Even though Pujols' BCA was first it was short printed. The Trout was the one that really set the stage for what we have today.
