Default 2023-24 Cleveland Cavaliers Thread

With tip-off about to be under way, now seems like a good time to start a Cavs thread.

Interesting year coming up, and I don't know which way it goes. A number of questions that should be answered?

-Does this team take the next step towards the top of the East, or stay in a rung or two down?

-How does the Mitchell contract/trade rumors progress throughout the year?

-Does Mobley take the next step, and do they make him more of a focal point of the offense or base it around the back court?

-What happens with Jarrett Allen?

-How is the ball handling split up, especially at the end of games?

Here's my Cavs collection. Feel free to share yours as well.

The above gamers are from Mobley's NBA Debut.

Garland is the best player on the team

I’m fine trading Mitchell if you get FMV

Never forget we got Lauri for free

Allen is awesome

Mobley might not be Garnett but people need to relax. Cunningham and Green are trash in comparison

That’s what I’ve got

Dope collection TJ. I need to get a nice Mitchell Cavs card. Haven’t been into cards much the last year so I haven’t had the chance to buy a Mitchell Cavs card besides the panini instant 71 point game card. I wonder if there’s any nice game used stuff yet?

Further along at what? Not impacting winning basketball, that’s for sure

Ah, yes, that entire year of Cade sitting out while Evan got playoff reps really helped push Cade past Evan in the player development arena.

Lol.

I see you guys are back on this disingenuous nonsense. I guess it's OK to be homers.

I’m guessing 50 wins and another 1st round exit. JBB is one of the 5 worst coaches in the league. We are a bit better this year. Okoro looked real good. Mobley looked the same. Garland and Levert had bad games. Should be a fun season, but bad ending.

Loved your Garland pics!

Well when the Pistons are 20-62 this season and the Cavs are a top 4 seed I guess we’ll see

I'm genuinely befuddled by your absolute garbage take. And being a homer has nothing to do with calling you out.

Evan Mobley was on the NBA All-Defensive First Team last year - the second youngest player in NBA history to do so. He was also a key piece on offense for a team that won 51 games, increasing his output in every key statistic over his rookie season. By what imaginary metric is Cade Cunningham - a guy who has all of 77 games - "further along" than Evan Mobley? For those keeping track at home, Mobley has played played 149 regular season games and 7 postseason games, at a high level. I mean, it's absolute nonsense. AND I LIKE CADE! But c'mon man, you aren't a serious person.

So Evan Mobley and Cade are the difference in records? Not the three All-Stars Mobley plays with including a Second Team All-NBA guard? You guys are funny.

I guess Michael Porter Jr. is the best SF in basketball by this logic.

Why the hell are we talking about Cade Cunningham in a Cavs thread?

This team hasn’t improved at all year over year.

Mobley is the exact same player, Mitchell is the same player, JB is the same horrible coach.

Thankfully there are so many awesome teams and young players to watch otherwise the Cavs would be more upsetting.

First round exit is the ceiling for this team until JB is fired

If this is what Mobley is offensively he’s just going to end up being a really good 3rd piece on a contender. If that’s the case then this team has no future as currently constructed

The construction is a mess.

Mitchell is great, but he's a square peg in a round hole here.

Go back to 2021-22 when this team first broke out and you have a great construction to develop a guy like Mobley. He shot 51% on 12 shots a game, which is pretty good for a rookie. Much of the offense centered around dribble penetration from our point guard who was a distributor first.

Then the next season we add a guy who leads the team in usage and fires up 10 3s a game, followed by adding another guy that's been throwing up 12 a game so far this year. The biggest sin of the Cavs 2022-23 season was that Mobley's shot attempts were flat, and actually down on a per minute basis (even though his shooting % when up to 55%). He's not making the leap we all hoped, but JB is not helping him either and it's frustrating to see.

"Team is sitting guys and mailing it in."

Dang, in that case, how many blowouts can Pacers rack up in the early going? Universe is conspiring to give McConnell minutes.

Cavs need to trade Mitchell… Mitchell is really good. Relax

Garland, Mobley, Allen (I still think they can play together) is the organic team

Mitchell was worth the risk. I don’t hate it at all. Never will. You get a Top 20 player if you can (and never forget we got Lauri for free)

Time to recoup some assets though
