Default Ideas for a birthday gift for a wrestling fan…

My fiancé is turning 40 on Christmas Day (which is a thing). She grew up watching mostly WWF and NWA (on TBS) in the mid-to-late 80’s.

I wanted to get her a sealed vintage box to open that would (1) have people that she grew up watching and (2) make fiscal sense.

I’ll spend up to $1k - what would you recommend?

1987 WWF would be an option. Bret Hart rookie and Andre's first Topps card (not sticker) Should be easily within your price range as well

You should be able to get an 87 Topps WWF box and a 1988 NWA Wonderama box for 1K combined. The only issue with that would be dupe cards and the fact that they're wildly overpriced for what you can get.

I'd get a handful of packs of both to open or hand collated complete sets and then some classic WWF and NWA VHS tapes to watch if you have a VCR. In the original form is the best way to watch!!

Thank you both! Is the price uptick on the ‘85 Topps boxes worth considering?

The 1988 NWA Wonderama is an amazing set.

You can find it as as a factory set with 4 additional cards that were replaced.

For $1k, you can almost certainly book Bret Hart and a couple of his wrestling buddies (or somebody else your fiance likes more) for a long Zoom birthday party to tell stories from back in the day.

What is the difference between the Topps x-out boxes from 85 and 87?

Don't think anything except for a big ugly smear. Just keep in mind these boxes are VERY overpriced for the content (unless you grade the stars out PSA9/10).

No difference in cards. They were close-outs from factory overruns. I know a flea market dealer that use to buy cases at $5/box in the late 80's.
