Default Cards you are targeting in 2024

I have finally stopped being lazy and I have sold a few cards on eBay. I have so many doubles I need to get rid of. I am also purchasing a thermal printer and selling all my raw cards through eBay PWE which didn't make the grading cut. I have about $600 in eBay funds from the last 2 months and once I get rolling it should be in the multi-thousands from cards that don't fit my PC.

I have put together a list of cards I want to get before I turn 50, which is 4.5 years away. I will never pay this much out of my pocket, will need to sell cards to get together a fund for it.

1. 1954 Topps Hank Aaron
2. 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth #144 or #53
3. 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle
4. 1933 Goudey Lou Gehrig

I am probably going to start with the Aaron rookie in 2024 and try to finish his Topps run of base cards next year. Is anyone else targeting a big card in 2024? Hopefully prices keep dropping so I can get these cards quicker!

2-1957 Topps Yogi Berra Mantle card
3-1966 Topps mantle
4-2001 Topps Barry Bonds base PSA 9 or 10
5-1960 Topps Mantle
6-1975 Topps Mini Bert blyleven PSA 7 or higher
7-1978 Topps Jack Morris PSA 9 or 10

Other than a low grade 53 Paige to finish my Topps era HOF pitcher run, no real "must haves" for me in 2024.

But, it would be nice to add a few Foxx cards at a reasonable price.

Default Louisiana issues

I will keep searching for the cards that I need for my Louisiana projects.

I have 159 of the 185 cards in the T213-2 set, and I am close to having my Louisiana type set completed. I still need an S74 baseball silk with a Red Sun back, and a W573 with a Café Du Monde back.

I have also started on the T82 Actors and Actresses set with Coupon Cigarettes (Louisiana) backs. I am at 24 out of 50.

I’m excited to say that I just started collecting vintage in the last 6mo or so. Next on my list are RCs of Ernie Banks, Sandy Koufax, Frank Robinson, and Satchel Paige.

I’m also using my eBay sales to fund my purchases, so likely won’t be able to secure all of these this year.

3 Main Goals for 2024 -

#1 - Finish the t206 Hall of Fame Set (at least 1 of each player) - currently I have 21 of the 36 HoFers (there are 38 in the set, but no chance at Wagner or Plank). I have the Cobb portrait, Wajo portrait, Speaker, and Lajoie so Cy Young and Mathewson are the 2 bigger ones I still need.

#2 - 1954 Hank Aaron RC - the one big 50s rookie I really want. Will make this happen in 2024

#3 - Pick up one "big one" from the big want list - 1933 Goudey Ruth, 1949 Bowman Paige, 1939 Playball Ted Williams RC. These are the 3 biggest cards I would love to own besides the 54 Aaron so hoping to maybe make one of them a possibility next year!

Main goals for 2024:

1. Finish the Billy O'Dell graded PC - It's not expensive to do, it's just a matter of doing it. If anybody has any, please hit me up. Especially the harder to find stuff

2. Buy some HOF graded RC's - Would love to add a few more Jordan's, maybe some the the 80's baseball rookies that I grew up watching. Boggs, Sandberg, Ripken, Gwynn, Henderson, Griffey Jr. Football: Jerry Rice, Elway, Montana, Marino. Basketball: Bird/Magic, Pippen, Rodman, Stockman, Reggie, all the guys in 86/87 Fleer. I would love a Gretzky rookie. I have some, but could always upgrade/get more

3. Work on my Topps PC Run - I want 1 PSA graded card from every Topps base set from 51-91 when they changed the card material.

4. Buy more star vintage - It stands the test of time, vintage stars is the way to go for long-term holds.

5. Start getting into vintage signed cards - I think they are special. The fact the player actually interacted with the card and it has a story.

The 1988 Fleer have dropped and now is the time to go after some of those cards on auction. The PSA 8's and 9's have come way down. The 1986 Fleer also are getting pretty reasonable. Looking for a Barkley now.

I stay away from the signed vintage cards, but love the modern card auto's. Especially Topps Heritage and some of the higher Topps brands. No stickers though, the athlete needs to sign the card!

1969 Lew Alcindor in a PSA 7/8
1965 Joe Namath in a PSA 6/7
1952 Topps Jackie Robinson in a 4/5 I feel like this card will become more iconic as time goes on.

1. Likely to finish my 1955 Topps All-American set in PSA7+ (about 10 away).
*break the top 20 on the registry

2. Continue to upgrade to PSA8's, which I have less than a dozen.

3. Decide on my next Vintage Football Set to pursue.

**Sell all my other Vintage in the mean time - ie. Philly Sets, Raw and Graded late 40s and 50s to fund all aforementioned**

I am going for the Unitas, Stars and Jim Brown rookies. Want to grab them at a show so I don't pay the tax and fees on Ebay.

I would like to pick up a low grade T206 Cobb green portrait or Bat Off Shoulder...

Not sure if the 80s are considered "vintage" but I've been toying around with the idea of getting my Gretzky collection graded by SGC and trying to get everything in a 9, minus the RCs...

I have every card of his from 79-80 through 95/96 when I stopped collecting...

I traded my 1970 Topps Nolan Ryan to a great guy on the forum this year and I have actually been thinking about trying to find another one of those!

Got it slabbed to match my PC, but disappointed they used the stupid plastic sleeve. Don't normally grade less than 7's from the 70's, but some cards just need some extra plastic. Thanks again!

You're welcome and thank you!! Awesome, I'm happy to see it again! I sold all of my graded Nolan Ryan cards a few months after our trade....but would like to have another example since 70 is my birth year and I kind of have a connection to that one. I still have some raw Ryans from 79-94(Plus modern/non playing year stuff). Not sure what I will do with those. I need to get them under magnification and good lighting and see if any might be worth grading. Life isn't giving me that kind of time availability these days unfortunately!! Lol. Take care!

My current vintage plan is to focus on a very, very small number of cards for baseball players with some kind of historical significance outside the world of baseball. I picked up a nice PSA 1 1933 Goudey Moe Berg for a couple hundred bucks, and I have a line on a nice low-grade 1948 Leaf Ted Williams. Open to ideas on other great WWII/Korea/Vietnam veterans or guys with meaningful post-baseball careers in business, politics, or the arts.

Everything will be capped off by the right 1948 Leaf Jackie. I'll know it when I see it, and saving up until I do.

Hank Greenberg, Bob Feller, Warren Spahn and Yogi Berra are all must gets if your WWII collection is going to be complete

Making pretty quick progress on my eBay sales and decided to get a thermal printer to sell under $20 cards through PWE. Just under $700 right now and will try to get at least one big card before 2024.

I'm a Hall of Fame players collector, and I need a bunch of pre-war and post-war vintage cards, but for 2024, I would be satisfied if I can just get one of the original/first class of 5 HOF players in a pre-war card.

So, here is my goal for 2024, which can always change, but any one of the below players in a pre-war card would be satisfactory for me:

Ty Cobb
Walter Johnson
Christy Mathewson
Honus Wagner
Babe Ruth

1. Finish my 1956 Topps set (Mantle, Aaron, Jackie, Aparicio and Whitey)
2. Break into a new set. I'm currently leaning towards 1953 Topps.
