I have been focusing my collecting around cards that tell a story, whether it is the card itself or in some instances the player that is on the card. I like these types of cards because I can show people the card and then tell them the story that goes along with it. About 99% of the people in my circle don't collect cards but do appreciate either sports or a good story. Here are some that I have obtained:
Dummy Taylor T206 - First Deaf player Pete Gray 1977 Galasso Greats - One armed player (no playing days cards produced of his) Eddie Waitkus 1955 Bowman - Back of card outlines being shot by woman (The movie The Natural was loosely based off of this) Ken Hubbs 1964 Topps/1966 Topps Dick Ellsworth - 1964 card is memoriam of him dying in a plane crash, 1966 card is a photo used of his on Ellsworth's card more than 2 years after his death Moe Berg 1939 Playball - Was a U.S. Spy (movie The Catcher was a Spy is based on him) 1953 Brown and Bigelow playing cards - since these were used as advertising I like the different businesses listed on the cards (also my Grandpa worked for Brown and Bigelow for more than 50 years so I have a personal connection) Here are some on my radar: 1952 Topps Gus Zernial with 6 baseballs on bat (he hit 6 home runs over a 3 game span) 1959 Topps Willie Mays "The Catch" details a famous play in the World Series 1976 Topps Kurt Bevacqua - Bubble gum champ (could not believe this used to be a thing) What are some of your favorites? Doesn't have to be baseball I also have the 1990-91 Hoops Sam Vincent card with Jordan wearing #12 or the 1990-91 Hoops Mark Jackson with the Menendez Brothers on the card |

Manny Ramirez Pacific game used bat cards that had cork in them. I've seen one pop up on Ebay in the last couple years and it went for $2000. The non-cork is a $10 card

1988 Topps Traded Jim Abbott. The speed at which he changes his mitt to his full hand is still insane to me

2009 Bowman 1st autos of "Million Dollar Arm" players Dinesh Patel and Rinku Singh. Making the story all the more interesting, Rinku Singh actually went on to have a successful WWE career of all things. I have a blue refractor auto of each that I love having in my collection.

1985 Topps Gary Pettis card has his brother on it. Gary always refuses to sign it since it’s not him and will recommend you get his brother Lynn to sign it.

1969 Topps Aurelio Rodriguez
![]() Story HERE Short version, it's the bat boy on the card, not Rodriguez. Topps paid homage to the card in the 2018 Heritage set:

Along these same lines, Pat Neshek is a big card collector, and has been working on a PSA 9 1970 Topps set. (I had an opportunity to talk to Neshek about it around 10 years ago; maybe he’s completed by now.) So, when 2019 Topps Heritage came around, featuring the ‘70 design, Neshek paid homage to the set by mimicking the fashion choice of a past Phillies reliever. ![]() ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

How about the Old Judge Hoss Radbourn? He's the first person photographed flipping the bird, AND he's doing it on this card!

As a snake guy, I've always loved the 1984 Fleer Glenn Hubbard. That is a massive red tailed boa he is holding in the photo

The 1972 Topps Billy Martin giving the finger card might fit in here.

The backstory on that card is great too. He did not know it was gonna be a baseball card photo, he thought it was just for him and was actually very annoyed that it became a card at first, going even as far as swapping the card out when someone wanted it autographed
