That's just business lol. I'm incredibly hypocritical about comps, my usage/denial of them depends on my side of the equation. A benefit of this stance is that I don't get too worked up when I think a seller is being overly stubborn. It's very easy for me to move on because I understand their position. I have run into some pretty frustrating buyers/sellers but hey, that's just life.

Just a bunch of jabronis lying about comps (3x, 4x, 5x) to swindle people out of money. It would be better to say “I know comps are this but my bottom dollar is that”.

Like this one guy had a card priced at $1200, said that was current comps, then I pull up comps and was $177…

I don’t think so. I think it erodes trust and in the end will hurt your business. I know there are several dealers / shops locally that I won’t deal with, even if they have the cards I am looking for: always looking to take advantage of the customer (offers 60% eBay comps, sell at 200% and then lie about it until someone proves them wrong, in which case they say, “that’s not what I remember”).

I wasn’t planning to buy one of these… but the price seemed ok, and maybe I’ll just get a rainbow going

I sold a PSA 10 BCA Base, then replenished the stack with a PSA 9 BCA Blue /150 (a ~30-50% upgrade) all while pulling 20% of the sale price. Unfortunately the player was Alek Thomas and not Corbin Carroll, so it wasn't very many dollars

Amazingly has two 1/1 ending in the next few days although with how many there are these days maybe not. Why do people sell cards like this right now? Need present money?

2019 Corbin Carroll 1st Bowman Chrome Auto Yellow Printing Plate 1/1

2022 Topps Pro Debut Corbin Carroll Superfractor Auto RC 1/1 Rookie

Maybe. It's holiday time which requires more money. Can't fault anyone for selling ever is my opinion. Too many variables.

Also Carroll must have a few hundred 1/1s already? So could be just result of large number of them.

While it’s a bad time to sell baseball in general, it’s a good time to sell Carrol specifically. He’s coming off a ROY and WS appearance season. Strike while the iron is hot. If he starts off in a mild slump next year and the DBacks don’t make the playoffs, the sell window could be closed for a long time.

Ya, and these are kind of “off the beaten path” 1/1. There are a bunch of these types sitting unsold by folks hoping to get something.

Would spring training be an even better time to sell?

Historically, my daily sales through spring training have been greater than the regular season.

Carroll is an odd case. I think his prices are very fluid and fragile now. If he comes out at Spring Training and looks like he’s leveled up, then maybe he’ll see a slight bump… but look what an MVP season did for Acuna, it was only a slight increase. It’s hard to imagine anything he could do in Spring Training that would rival the high he’s currently experiencing from a ROY/WS season. Carroll really feels like he’s pushing his current ceiling. I’m still a long term believer in him though, I just think he’s a little over priced at the moment.

For all other players? Yes, wait until Spring Training.

I’m not sure if this is the right spot for this question, but I noticed a video from Scotty B cards about Topps Chrome and listened to the interview of Michael Rubin on the Bill Simmons podcast, and there’s definitely a disconnect between what Topps is doing with products like Topps Chrome and what collectors are saying…

I know Corbin Carroll is riding a “high” right now and rightfully so (IMO), he’s an exceptional talent and hopefully has a bright future. But I worry that the “flagship” cards are being overproduced to the point where even if the space continues to grow, we’re going to go into parallel paralysis. I dunno where I’m going with this but it’s something I’m pondering about, especially as I have invested a lot in CC.

We’re already there. Base has been worthless for a long time now, and even base refractors are dollar bin fodder. If you’re looking to invest in CC, stick with established, low print run, fan favorites that are visually appealing. Find what’s truly rare, and actually sought after by collectors (not IG pumpers).

Basically, do what pewe did.

Haha… I appreciate it. I do have my thesis and stick to it. But the “old guard” in the hobby values the flagship image and I’m questioning whether that is being over produced to the point where even rare parallels are not going to hold value.

Black, and gold will hold their relative value.

Honestly, I think the move is to be frugal. I will hopefully get my cards back from PSA in time for pitchers and catchers, which is when I feel like spring training ramps up from a sales perspective.
