So those are your words. Seems to me west coast was his "#1 priority" --- if winning was really "#1" he could've went to Tampa, Houston maybe back then. But you made the call on him so I defer to your inner circle knowledge.

We also don't know how many teams were willing to let him be a full time two way player.

My guess is this number is closer to 1 than most people think.

Per Jeff Passan, latest rumors are that teams still in the hunt for Ohtani are the Dodgers, Cubs, Blue Jays, and Angels. The Rangers, Red Sox, and Mets reportedly have shifted focus elsewhere. Giants still love Ohtani but unclear where they stand

If that's really the list, I think its really down to dodgers and angels.

I'm not rooting against it, but the Blue Jays feels like the longest shot to me out of those 4 alleged finalists. I just don't see that happening. Is it crazy if I can see a world where he goes back to the Angels? Would be super disappointing for the prospects of ever getting to see him in the postseason, but the Angels have let him run the show and do whatever he wants to do, and it does seem like it worked out perfectly for him as his original landing spot

Mildly surprised the only mention of the Mariners was in the Soto section of the link above, where reported that Mariners are out on Shohei due to cost - that itself isn't too surprising, but seems like there was more rumors about Seattle being a possible landing spot than ever really happened in reality

I just can't see Ohtani not being on west coast team. Dodgers and Angels are still my two likely spots. My money would be on the Dodgers. Mariners were the long shot, since they have a heavy Japanese presence and history. Seems they don't like the price tag.

Please play for the Cubs. Anyone but Friedman and the Dodgers.

More I think about it.

The West Coast angle is overrated. Why is staying on the WC important? It is not like he will be going to Japan during the season. No reason really.

Why he chose the Angels in the first place I don't get. Angels no way this time.

Mariners won't pay up.

Cubs, Dodgers, Jays.

Lol. Reasons you think for someone not caring about playing on a West Coast team are not relevant to how Shohei thinks.

Angels would be absolutely shocking given how he ended the season cleaning out his locker early. Zero chance of Blue Jays lol. Cubs can roll in if there's something to him that matters, that very well might that we haven't heard of yet, is him wanting to the undisputed god of a franchise. Dodgers are a crowded team.

It's hard to really buy the talk of a team "being out of it" when Shohei's agent has said teams leaking anything is a huge no no. I'm sticking with my original order of Dodgers, Mariners, Rangers, Braves, with a longshot Cubs. No one outside of those 5 has a chance

Just want to quote this so we can use it as a reply every time you speak in fact instead of opinion.

It's the Dodgers or Angels. The question is whether or not the Angels are a supreme longshot or more like 50/50, because if they are 50/50, he's going to go back to them. (I believe it's the Dodgers but I think the Angels are legit in this.)

Basically. If he wants the comfort of what he knows, Angels. If he wants to move down the road and actually contend, Dodgers.

How are the Mets out, I don't get it?

Doesn't it fit their timeline perfectly for 2025? Does Steve have a limit after all?

When he was first posted, the Yankees were basically told no by Ohtani's camp before they could even have real conversations with him because he wanted to be closer to home and would also prefer a smaller market team.

Not all think like that but I wouldn't say that it's overrated.

Yankees also didn't really want him to pitch either.

I find it somewhat refreshing that here we have one of the biggest stars across all sports and we have zero clue as to what he wants.

Athletic had a fun article about CAA (Balelo's) clandestine 2017 operations of switching drop-off/pickup points and meetings spots for visiting GMs to keep a tight seal on negotiation status. Another article made the point that reporters cannot even find out the NAME of Sho's dog. There's no way in hell anything baseball pertinent is leaking from the Sho camp and we're destined to wonder until Sho/Nez decide to let us know.

Hope we hear some great news at the winter meetings this coming week!

That's funny, because my wife has been asking me the name of his dog every day since the MVP announcement.

With two major injuries that affected his pitching, it was like he was meant to be a Yankee.

Surprising to see all the thoughts about him going back to the Angels… I don’t see it. A team that, no matter what, always finds a way to not make the playoffs.
