Wholesale on 2020 Masterwork was ~$40 per box less than 2022. Not a big jump considering the market changes in that time frame. 2021 Masterwork was a ~$15 bump from 2020 for that matter, so only $25 per box higher than the most recent MW release.

These boxes are around $300 for the most part, not nearly double what 2020 went for at release unless you had sellers willing to sell below wholesale

I have no idea about wholesale, but $1340 was the BO price on 2020 Masterwork cases. This one was $2500, I could easily be missing something on boxes/hits per case but that's pretty close to double imo.

Fyi I'm not here to dump on Topps or Star Wars cards in general, and I actually like the design of these cards. I haven't bought into it because the price seems pretty high.

Cost was $140 for 2020 masterworks. This is basically double

Cost on these was sub $200, so if comparing cost to cost it is not anywhere near double. On resale, I checked my old records and for 2020 Masterwork I sold boxes $210-225 per consistently upon release. 2021s were selling all day at $375-400 per box upon release.

So for a far better set compared to 2020 and 2021 to be ~$300 per is not some egregious price level. Not sure how this is some point to complain about as if prices are inflated on this set. Market is VERY different nowadays, content is better, average box value is higher, and yes compared to 3 years ago the box prices are ~40-50% higher (which most everything these days is this % higher if not more so)

Completely agree. A lot of people for some odd reason are lumping this in with all the other disastrous 2022 SW releases. Apples and oranges.

I bought this at cost from 2014-2019

Was around that 150 mark. Maybe 160

Then during the purge 400-450

Now back to 275-315. Which is a complete rip off

Just like almost everything

Wonder who is setting the prices in this monopoly

If those numbers are right I pretty much agree, I was looking at case costs from older group breaks that I thought were filled pre-release. I wouldn't argue that raising prices right now is a problem exclusive to Topps or card producers in general, obviously. But I complain about paying $6 for a dozen eggs so I'll probably still complain when the cardboard cards we all love get more and more expensive, especially since there's no good reason for most prices to be going up...they just want to make a higher profit selling their eggs.

I don't think anyone was trying to do that. Most of this year's garbage sets were $60-100 / box and weren't worth close to half that. This is a high end set and clearly better, but of course it is it's $300. I'd rather get one box of Masterwork than 3 boxes of Chrome, but I'd rather just pass.

Negatives aside there is a lot in this set that I like so I'm looking forward to watching what gets put on ebay over the next few weeks.

Well I've drastically cut back on my baseball spending so I'm playing around more with non-sports. My Star Wars Strange New Worlds project is going strong. I thought it was in my budget to "gamble" on a box of Masterwork. I'd say I did okay.

2 common autos, 1 thick screen relic and this...
A beautiful Kevin Nelson sketch

I agree with everyone else, great sketch. One of my picky thoughts is always how artists shade things. Yours is beautifully done, smooth and the lighting is just right viewing it.
Happy Holidays,
Vinny

Brothers and I went in on 2 boxes for Xmas and just got together to rip. This is by far the best SW product in last two years imo (though still too expensive). Wasn't expecting to get anything too crazy, but each box had a sketch, one had a Giancarlo Esposito auto /50, and then THIS Emilia wood auto /10.

Out of all the wax still priced high. Star Wars is the most confusing

But masterwork still has some nice hits

Hopefully someday it will be back to 160.00

I've watched a bunch of breaks as well. The sketches are reliably 1:2 boxes, but yeah the big autos are erratic. Seen cases where the best auto is like a $200 card and other where there were 4-5 very decent (Rsario, Sackhoff level) autos.

Are you saying that one person got lucky with 4 Dawson autos in 10 cases while everyone else got nothing? What about the other 400 cases with a Dawson auto? I'm critical of recent releases a lot but your level of Debbie Downer-ing everything is pretty crazy.
